  • YOu want more black head coaches? Then don't go straight to the top! Start by trying to get more Black HC, or assistants in the college level (Maybe HS as well). Where do you thing a majority of NFL coaches get their initial coaching experience?

    Duh!!!!!

    • Actually, HC is hardly "the top" - more blacks in front office/athletic departments would probably get more blacks hired.

If it was my team, I'd want to see the most qualified candidate. People were ragging on Jacksonville a few years back for taking Jack Del Rio instead of a black HC. It seems that one paid off, didn't it?

        • Del Rio, fine, but Buffalo hired Dick Jauron. And I heard Jim Hasslett's name when spots were open. What have they done? Nothing.

But really, the representation of blacks in the front office (where they do the hiring of coaches) is much lower than in the coaching ranks.
Maybe we should be concerned there aren't more white players.

Hey, at least Juaron does have a Coach of the Year award. And Haslett normally gets a pass because many front office people consider Tom Benson to be an absolute ****ty owner, and Haslett did give the Saints the first winning season since 1992 when he took over in 2000 (taking over a 3-13 team), and if McAllister didn't get hurt the team could have finished 8-8 (they did beat Carolina in the first game of the year after all), and given Haslett a career record over .500.

Its the same reason Joe Bugel was given looks, because he coached for Arizona (and now is an offensive coach for the 'Skins).

Letting his team mates and Dolphins fans down once again.

SI.com -- Dolphins' running back Ricky Williams has again tested positive for drug use, according to the Miami Herald, a violation that could result in a one-year suspension under the league's substance abuse policy.

The Herald cited two sources saying that Williams tested positive for a fourth time, but neither would disclose what substance Williams used. He had tested positive for marijuana on three previous occasions.

Marijuana use was a major contributor in Williams walking away from football in 2004, just days before the start of Dolphins' training camp.

He returned to the NFL last season, and was forced to sit out the first four games and was fined four weeks pay for his second and third substance abuse violations.

The 1998 Heisman winner also tested positive in December 2003 and in the '04 offseason.

Williams rushed for 743 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games this season, ending a streak of four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.

                • Any word yet on whether he failed a test or just skippe one? Both are league policy violations...

                    • What does Williams care? He just came back so he wouldn't have to pay back his signing bonus. Him failing the test probably allows him a quick out, by having the Fins cut him and not require him to pay back anything.

                      • Apparently Williams has appealed... and interestingly:

The substance discovered is not known publicly but a source told ESPN.com's Clayton that the drug for which Williams was said to have tested positive was not marijuana. Williams has three times prior tested positive for marijuana use.

Could be... or some other enhancing substance.

Unconfirmed reports have indicated that his appeal will be based on the actual substance... that it is something that was in one of the "natural" supplements that he takes. Who knows...

Doesn't even have to be enhancing, could be a masking agent. Or something in the natural supplements that raises a flag.

                            Who knows, indeed.

                            • I hope this isn't like the Olympic skeleton guy who got banned from competing because he was using a hair restoration treatment, which is a 'masking substance'. Of course, the guy also had some pretty bad thining hair, but he couldn't have been using it for that!
