  • Well, any movement of the ball after everyone's down means the start of the play, no?

All I can say is look at the video. It definitely looks like it's moving, although not necessarily very horizontally, in that frame.

No. Plenty of centers will move the ball up on an angle (to make it easier to snap) after everyone is down, and I've never seen it as the start of a play.

      • Well, it's one frame before the ball clearly moves horizontally. It's not like he shifted the ball, stopped, and then snapped it.

I'd argue that the ball is probably moving horizontally in that frame too.

I'm basically with Ming -- the overall officiating sucked, the calls against Seattle generally happened on their biggest plays. Both teams played like crap, but Pittsburgh executed when it counted and deserved the victory.

In terms of overall quality, it may have been the worst Super Bowl ever.

IMO, It wasn't even the worst Super Bowl of the past 5 years. Remember Super Bowl 37?

            • 37?! Tampa played far better than either of those teams on Sunday. Hell, Oakland's offense did as well!

I'd much rather see a well played blowout than a horribly played close game.

Unless it's the Bears blowing somebody out... I would have to disagree. I would much rather have a close and exciting game, even if both teams play horribly than a well played blowout. There is NOTHING exciting about a blowout, well played or not.

Oh, I was watching XXXVII with a friend of mine, and we decided to play Halo after the first half. It was that bad. I watched this one all the way through.

I thought that he just used to practice before he became a lawyer, but I was wrong.

That's kind of sad, but I'm glad we got Haslet for a defensive coordinator. It must be tough though. I would think that finding a job in the college ranks would be easier on the ego.

Tampa-Oakland was a horribly played blowout in which Tampa players knew everything the Raiders would do before they did it (Gruden was the coach of the Raiders the previous year, and Callahan, the next Raiders coach, didn't bother to change the terminology). It had a sloppy first half, followed by a blowout second half spurred mainly by Oakland's scheme being an open book.

EDIT: At least this Super Bowl has plays that will be remembered (Parker's TD, El's TD pass to Ward). Once the initial outrage subsides and people re-evaluate the game, the judgements of the instant historians will melt away and people will see this game for what it was: a sub-par game in which neither team played its best, but a game that had its moments. It's in the bottom half of Super Bowls played, maybe even the bottom third, but not the worst.

Guess Ford came across with more $$. Not sure how this is going to work out: I thought Martz ran a finesse offense; Marinelli seems more a smashmouth football guy.

Martz may not be around long, as he still wants to be a head coach.

You are being far too optimistic. Like SuperBowl V is remembered for being the sloppiest SB in history, SB XL will be remembered for being the worst officiated. You think that is going to subside and people will remember other parts of the game in football history... you'll be in for a shock.
