Not really interested in BBM. It's a romance story, and I care not for such things.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
Even as I am capable of recognizing women who are sexually attractive to straight men, I'm never myself attracted to women.
But, at same time, I don't have a problem seeing a woman and man, or two women kissing.
And I have to add..two men kissing is HOT.
But like MrFun stated, we see a man and a woman kissing every day...and even on rare occasions, two women kissing each other....for social reasons (be fruitful and multiply - who cares if we don't have enough food to feed everynone as it is-syndrome), ... that is fine....but low and behold, if two men are kissing each other = Social crisis developes! PLEASE! Grow up already! Homosexualtiy has always been here and it will always be here. Why can't people accept this as a fact of nature?!?

Brokeback Mountain has corrupted the time honored theme of the American Western. Westerns aren't about two lonely men kissing under the stars in the wilderness. Westerns are about a man and his horse alone in the wilderness.
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed. But they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love. They had 500 years of democracy and peace. And what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

I recommend before you argue again on a subject you do some proper research on it, actually use quotes and not reading lists (which are not a substitute for argument or facts, no matter what you seem to think) and instead of relying on IIRC or IIUC make use of documentary evidence to support your argument.
I can't find the James Fennimore Cooper quote that seems most apposite, but Alexander Pope will do:
A little learning is a dangerous thing;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:
There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again.

I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.
I still don't get how anyone can complain about a gay cowboy flick. It's like complaining about wet water.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

The Nedaverse I can accept, but not the Berzaverse. There can only be so many alternate realities. -- Elok

Both forms of the human body are beautiful. One form is simply a lot more fatty than the other, which makes the male form that much more beautiful.
It doesn't surprise me at all that someone so gloriously conform and inept at critical thinking would take his aesthetic judgments from fashion magazines.

In defense of Winston and all the other uncomfortable straights trying to articulate their lack of desire to see this film, but showing their obvious curiousity, due to the media hype and evidenced by their posting in this thread, I submit the following.
The reason straight men don't want to watch a film with gay men is simple. To be a straight male, you can't have homosexual relationships or be seen doing anything remotely homosexually related without calling your heterosexuality into question. To be heterosexual is to literally walk the straight and narrow. To use a popular idiom, "once you play for the other team, you are not allowed back into the locker room." For a heterosexual to have his sexuality questioned would be socially catastrophic. It would call into question their identity and all of their core values. A complete realignment of their existence would have to be done. Gay and bisexual men on the other hand can watch heterosexuals without having their sexuality questioned. In the eyes of the straight community, they are already compromised. Heterosexual men can't even watch the Lifetime channel without having their manhood called into question.
Well, only if you're so insecure that you worry about such things.
Hell, I went to see BBM... twice. I can honestly attest that my sexuality (or other's peoples view of it) isn't "compromised". Nor would I give a flying **** if it was... I'm near 40 years old with a hot wife and a beautiful daughter. What sort of "validation" do I need that I'm not getting when I lie down next to Laura every night?
Sorry... but because other people are bigotted isn't an excuse to argue for ones silent acceptance of it.

It's important for Daz to know whether this is primarily a "movie with a political message" or a movie about universal truths that almost anyone can relate to regardless of their political affiliations or sexual orientations. Typically a lot of movies which include "controversial" subjects are handcuffed by the timidity of the studios etc., and end up treating the controversial subject matter in a stereotypical manner, or almost as bad in an unrealistic didactic manner (see, gays don't really want to molest your son they are all simply wonderful people who are misunderstood and are horribly murdered for it). Molly rightly complains that gays are rarely treated realistically in film, to which I'd add a long list of other groups who suffer similarly.
Rent was an example of the first type - a movie with a political message. I have no problem with that if the film is done well - Syriana, for example. Rent was not done well - it, frankly was the worst film I saw in all of 2005... far, far worse than mediocre offerings like "Wedding Crashers" and "40 year old virgin". It was so offensive that I actually walked out of it.
BBM was an example of the second type - a movie that explored universal truths that happened to be about gay people. BBM wasn't about the two mens struggle with "society" (as an overhanded political film would be) but about their struggle with themselves.

40 Year Old Virgin... mediocre?!
