You're probably right, but I've done my best to learn about Islam and fundamentalism... and the struggle within Islam... which IMO, is the real war here...

I don't think the real war is between America and Islamic fundies... I think it's a war between moderate Islam and fundamentalist Islam... and America is playing a vital role. Which is why I was against the war in Iraq, because it only helps the cause of the fundamentalists, Al Qaeda, Wahibiists, etc...

Some of my friends are from Pakistan. They've given me some wonderful insight into Islam and I would like to think I know more than the average person.

I do think that I understand the motives of the fundies and what they are capable of more than I am talking out of my ass.

Don't be silly. There was reliable, and I say that based upon the fact that they don't bomb places without reliable info, information that the #2 of Al Qaeda was going to be there. More then likely the people killed were working with Al Qaeda or were members of Al Qaeda. I will not cry for them though it is regretable that these people chose to carry on such activities around their children.

The Us went after combatants but there is no way to kill the bad guys without taking out the people around the bad guys. The Iraqi insurgents don't target combatants and instead target Shi'as attending religious services or shopping at the mall. It is completely assinine to claim the two are the same. Killing Al Qaeda's big wigs is the best way to break up their organization and if the only way to do it is to blow them up with their followers and their 4 wives then **** them all.

I have as little sympathy for these people as I have for German civilians who died in legitimate attacks. Which is to say, I'm sorry for them, but I won't excoriate the Allies for doing what had to be done to stop the Nazis.

I support the war against the Salafist movements worldwide. These people want to establish a reactionary clerico-fascist state. They are akin to the Spanish Falange, but without the modernist aspect of that movement. They are an enemy of all Enlightment thought: capitalist and socialist alike. And we are their enemies. Socialists would not allow them to exist either, and I see no reason to side with them just because it is the imperialists waging the war.

I oppose the war in Iraq because it immoral, illegal, and because it detracts for the struggle against the Salafists. The Northwest Territories of Pakistan are the North Vietnam of Afganistan: a safe haven from which the terrorists can infiltrate Afganistan as well as the rest of the world. It is only because the internal stability of Pakistan would crumble that we are not more openly involved in the region.

My only criticism of the Afganistan war was the way in which it was conducted, which ended up being moot do to the speed in which the Taliban collapsed and the fact that the projected harsh winter turned out to be extremely mild.

Do you America haters realize that if you found yourselves in that Afghan/Pakistani border region, those same "innocent" people would kidnap you and cut your head off in an Islamabad minute just for being a Westerner (infidel)?

My God, someone tell all those westerners helping out with quake relief to get the hell out of there. So far all I've heard about are dead women and children. Ward Churchill used a similar guilt by association when he said the people in the towers weren't really innocent.
