I fail to see how the dead miners were furthering the "filthy *** agenda". I guess we'll never know.

It would be interesting to see if some of the same people who were indifferent, or even approved of the picketing of Shepherd's funeral in 1998, are much more appalled with this current picketing now that we're talking about twelve dead miners.
In both cases, the picketing is equally appallingI make no bones about my moral support for [terrorist] organizations. - chegitz guevara

Not even close to being most Christians -- try a SMALL minority of professed Christians who preach hate instead of love.
I was saying that Phelps doesn't represent Lonestar or most other Christians

Oh, I agree with you that more savvy Christian fundies who have a bigoted agenda have found more subtle ways to express their opposition to equal rights for gays. Won't argue with you on that point.
But, your oversimplification of Christians as all being in line with extreme fundie, bigoted agenda is false.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Phelps isn't representative of other Christians? What is he doing except voicing the belief that God punishes those who disagree with Him -- a belief Christians of all stripes give voice to?
God punished those poor miners because America is full of sin? Okay, nobody believes that except his nutjob followers. But what about the idea that...
various natural disasters are God's wrath?
or that AIDS is God's judgement on gays?
or -- the biggie -- that good people who don't worship Jesus are going to burn in hell forever?
Phelps' Christianity is, at bottom, pretty much exactly like most people's Christianity. His interpretation of scripture is just a little more unorthodox, and his enthusiasm for spreading the Word a bit stronger."I have as much authority as the pope. I just don't have as many people who believe it." — George Carlin

What Phelps does is illegal in Canada, and your funding them would probably be illegal too.

And it also depends on which Christian demographic area of the world you're talking about, with different cultures having varying pratices of Christianity.
You're treating Christianity as a monolithic group -- a gross, and unfair oversimplification.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

It's ironic that he's the one that caused the anti-hate speech law to be passed in Canada.
