This is the game of the ridiculous defensive ends. Peppers, Rucker, Strahan, Umenyiora all on the same field.

The Giants secondary is pretty bad, and if a team has good enough tackles to keep the DE duo away, they get toasted. They managed only one sack against Washington in week 16, and as a result Santana Moss toasted them for 160 yards on 5 catches.

If I were Carolina, I'd consider just keeping a fullback in the backfield to help block most of the game.

nah

you just need to double team one of them (probably Delhomme's blind side) by pulling the guard... the Giant's are weak at DT, so you can afford to let the center and other guard man block the tackles on pass plays...

you don't want to take away an option for Delhomme on passing plays by dedicating a guy in the backfield as a blocker...

however, you can use a guy in that role on play action... fake, then pick up a blitz, release and move out into the flat

a fullback is not going to be the best option for trying to stop an elite pass rusher like Strahan or Umenyiora (damn I had to look his name up )

I'm not sure how good a blocker Foster is, but he's a better receiver option than the fullbacks Carolina has... on passing plays, I doubt you will see the fullback in the single back sets... and I don't know how often they use two back sets in passing downs.

Well isn't Davis supposed to be the co-starter with Foster? He has the 2nd most carries and yards this year and 12 rushing TDs. Why would Goings pass him on the depth chart if there wasn't an injury?

Davis got progressively less effective as the season went on. he won't be back in Carolina next year.

The Giants really choked today. I was SO wrong in thinking they were ready to step it up. I know the defrense had injuries, but the offense was just inept.

The Carolina rushing game was missing until the last few games. They found it at just the right time.

although I think it's going to be a good game...

the stats from the Bear/Panther game earlier this year might not reflect it, but Delhomme made some mistakes... and those are certainly correctable. He came ready to play today. He's definitely a great leader capable of carrying this team far into the playoffs. But the Bears were able to get after him last time (8 sacks), and I think they will be able to do it again next week.
