      • Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera apparantly interviewed for the Raiders head coaching job... along with the St. Louis job.

I hope he stays in Chicago... although if the Bears win the Super Bowl, it will be easier to see him go.

Rivera is going to be an NFL head coach some day. I would just like to see him with the Bears a little longer... and I'd definitely like to see him on this staff if and when they win a Super Bowl.

With almost all of the defensive players signed through the next couple years at least, this Bears defense is going to be a force to be reckoned with. I think Jerry Azumah and Hunter Hillenmeyer are the only guys not locked up for next year. And those are positions that can easily be filled.

        edit: Rivera... not Turner... DOH

          • Sava's quote is

Rivera should stay in Chicago another year or two. Neither Al Davis nor the Rams is the right situation for him; he needs to wait for a good situation where he can succeed right away.

              • Well, with Texas, KC, and the Packers, the coach signings are starting in earnest. The Rams didn't jump at the chance, so maybe we can keep him another year. I don't expect it, but it sure would be nice...

                • Doctor calls Palmer's injury 'devastating'

CINCINNATI (Jan. 12, 2006) -- Carson Palmer 's knee injury was "devastating and potentially career-ending," involving numerous ligament tears, a shredded ligament, damaged cartilage and a dislocated kneecap, his surgeon said.

The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback tore ligaments in his left knee when he was hit by Pittsburgh's Kimo von Oelhoffen on his first pass during the Steelers' 31-17 playoff victory.

The team announced that he had torn the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments. The damage was much more extensive and severe, but Dr. Lonnie Paulos said surgery went well and Palmer could be back for the start of the season.

Palmer had surgery Jan. 10 in Houston. Doctors used grafts from other parts of his body and donated tissue to fix the damage during an operation that lasted more than two hours. Palmer headed back to California on Jan. 12 to do his rehabilitation.

"It's not just like it was a torn ACL," Paulos said in a phone interview from Houston. "It's a magnitude more difficult to recover from and repair. It can and has ended careers, without a doubt.

"However, I feel very comfortable with Carson as an athlete and the heart that he's got. In the end, that's the bottom line. I can see the look in his eye already. He's ready to get going."

The problem with this that the Rams were allowed interview Rivera because he was on a bye week. They wouldn't be able to hire him untl the Bears season is over. If this is the case, we should make sure he gets his coaching SB ring this season.

Detroit has their eye on him. Sounds like their top choice. I just hope Indy wins so the Lions can snap up Grimm soon.

                        • Btw, the doc retracted how bad the injury was. He says he was misquoted and actually told Palmer and the team that it was a clean tear.

Maybe he should save some energy in the regular season, instead of going for meaningless end-of-season stat-padders.
