Yes, because those band names were all the rage at the time.

Funny though, Sum 41 and Blink 182 are still coming out with stuff but not M20.
      "Yay Apoc!!!!!!!" - bipolarbear
"At least there were some thoughts went into Apocalypse." - Urban Ranger
"Apocalype was a great game." - DrSpike
"In Apoc, I had one soldier who lasted through the entire game... was pretty cool. I like apoc for that reason, the soldiers are a bit more 'personal'." - General Ludd

That may have something to do with the members releasing solo albums and not getting back together until 2006.

2005 was a good year for metal:

Judas Priest released one of their best albums yet (if not the best album) "Angel of Retribution".

Dark Tranquillity released yet another masterpiece with "Character".

Soulfly continues to expand their musical horizon with "Dark Ages"

Demon & Wizards release their highly awaited second album "Touched by the Crimson King"

Spiritual Beggars "Demons", the legacy from the 70´s never go out of style.

Grand Magus "Wolfs Return", yet another flawless installment of bluesy stoner/doom

And of course "Rosenrot" by Rammstein. Not as good as "Reise, Reise" but still enjoyable.

And there were some good non-metal albums released as well:

Alice in Videoland "Outrageous", feisty and irresistable electro with gorgeous singer Toril.

Fischerspooner "Odyssesy", the media hype is over but it´s still damn good electro.

Ladytron, "Witching Hour". I´ve waited soo long for this album and I´m not disappointed. This is the best one yet.

And I was under the impression that Opeth was "progressive death metal". They have songs that certainly contain lots of talentless, look-at-me death vocals that instantly remove any credibility they may have.

The people who listen to crap like that, along with System of a Down-style bands, are all usually psychologically touched in some way or another. Whether they suffer from clinical depression, some form or paranoia, maybe just neglected as children. Musically talented, they are not. They just get their angry finger-to-society music and a bunch of people can relate to it and seem to think that makes it good.

Any band full of people who wear all black with long hair and tatoos all over are just rebellious teenagers that never grew up. They likely started their band when they were such teenagers, discovered that many sad individuals still identified with the image, and made lots of money off of it.

Metal is just a anger release method. I don't think I have any more anger than the next guy. but I don't bottle it in (actually I do when I'm working). Metal is a release for that anger. I'm not some anarchist punk full of tattoos who watches wrestling. I just don't fit the stereotype of a metal fan.

Or maybe I am disturbed. Maybe other people can go through their lives without ever feeling angry. But I doubt it. Anger is a common emotion. Some choose to release it in constructive ways. Country music fans have anger. Though often they release it by getting into fist fights with each other. . How is that more constructive than death metal?

John allison (the English artist who draws Scary Go Around) has released part of his top 20 list for 2005. http://www.scarygoround.com/

It seems he's releasing four per weekday from boxing day to New Year's eve. Sounds like an attempt to get a vacation to me. I expect his list will be heavy with indie bands as well. I don't really care what a guy who draws web comics thinks about music but it would seem to indicate that people from many different walks of life seem to think indie music is superior to the main stream stuff.

BTW Asher, NPR's list the winners of an online poll! The three critics also offered their picks but those are different lists.

Exactly! We need more rock bands consisting of middle-aged respectable community leaders who play scrabble and grow runner beans! Who's with me!
