I could tell you the best song I downloaded in 2005. Although out of all the songs I downloaded, I'm not sure which one came out in 2005.

2005 has been a piss poor year in music. I didn't even care for System of a Down's new one much. I prefer their first 3 albums.

Mezmerize was okay... but I like Hypnotize a lot.

Attack, Holy Mountains, and Soldier Side are my favorite songs on Hypnotize...

I've still got to listen to it more...

the first three albums are awesome though...

do you have the B sides album? I downloaded that one. I haven't listened to it yet though.

did they release 2 albums last year?

edit: I guess they did. I'll have to check the other one out. The one with BYOB was okay. but it kind of sounded like they were going too mainstream.

Hmm...tough one... Rush and Yes came out with live anniversary DVDs. And while I love the renditions of "And You And I" and "Wonderous Stories", Ill have to go with R30, Rush's live performance in Frankfurt celebrating 30 years of great music.

While I disagree that Sufjan Stevens was the best artist of 2005 I do believe he wrote some great music. Here is a copy of the song Decatur from his Illinios album. http://www.last.fm/music/Sufjan+Stevens/_/Decatur

Yes, though I personally don't like it.

And since I like his webcomic I'll even link Jeph Jacques's best of 2005 list though he cites a bit to much trance and electronica for my tastes. http://www.questionablecontent.net/top202005.php
not a single thing in that list is trance.

Sure, provided the listener has some psychological issues. Death metal is amazing in that it is music so terrible, and its fans so downright disturbed.
