Ted, there are many things that don't make sense. Turkmenistan's only party used to be the communist party. Now it's the democratic party. They just changed the name and the leader is president for life. That makes no sense either.

It's just words used wrong.

Yeah, I agree, just East Germany (DDR) had the word "Democratic (can't remember how to spell it in German)" in its title.

Why would anyone think that apes are insensitive to pain? Great apes may be stronger than men, but then strength is a minor attribute in modern warfare. Manual dexterity, and good eye-hand coordination, attributes which apes definately lack, are much more improtant. Furthermore, just try to talk an ape into dying for a cause!

Oh, and the Soviets eventually allied themselves with the good guys, so would they be more like the horse lords of Rohan? Would Britan be Gondor? Wait though, Gondor was invaded and nearly on its death bed, but Britain was never invaded. Russia was invaded, so Russia has to be Gondor. Does that make the British the Rohirrim, and the US the Hobbits?

Hmmm... maybe. Pellenor Fields = Stalingrad, huh? That could work. But then you end up with Russia ruling everything at the end.

The Rohirrim were neutral at the start and then joined the fight after Saruman's attack; thus they might be a better candidate for the USA. Alternately, The Soviets could be Rohan for the same reason, which lets us keep the elves as the USA, and lets us keep our comparison of Saruman = Hitler. Gondor would then be an amalgam of allied countries - France would be Ithilien and Osgiliath, while Britain is Minas Tirth itself, never conquered by the enemy.
