I never understand why seeking to deny (at least certain aspects of) one's humanity is such a bad thing. Being proud to be a cobbled-together sack of protein shake is as foolish as being proud of nationality or heritage. Why not strive to rise above biology as you would prejudices?

Because it's a part of who you are - and is the only reason to be proud of anything. The difference between this and nationality/citizenship, is that the latter is a piece of paper, and the former is a meaningful difference.

Ok, another less abstract matter of historical contingency then. Parentage? Place of birth? Race? Just as part of me as my hormone levels, and just as meaningless. Why celebrate what you did not achieve and cannot change?

Where did I write I was "proud" to be human. I'm very happy I'm human, just as I'm happy I was born, but if I were not, I wouldn't care. But I'm here, and I can exhalt the gloriousness of being alive. Life, emotions, and boobs are wonderful things. I sing of the body electric. Enjoy them while you can, for soon you shall not exist.
