Things to do in Paris, France, from the edited h2g2, the Unconventional Guide to Life, the Universe and Everything
Driving a Car in Paris
If you're getting bored with sissy sports like pit bull arm-wrestling or chainsaw juggling, you may consider having a go at driving in Paris for a new thrill. You'll only need a car, a crash helmet and some good insurance.
Get in the car, fasten your helmet, don't tell your insurance company you're planning to drive there (it would surely cancel your policy), and wish yourself good luck..
Top tip: Don't ever brake. Use the horn instead.

In just a short time Mao will have a taste for pork pies and warm beer.
I'm never sure where the warm beer comes from. Ok, we don't serve it ice cold, but British beer should be served slightly chilled, at least. But no, he's going to Oxford, he'll come back with a taste for kebabs & whatever's cheapest in the college bar

I think its that English pubs serve a lot more ales, which are best served warmer than a frosty lager. As Americans daren't touch anything that isn't low-carb, low-alcohol and fresh out the chiller they never actually taste a decent ale. They just label it as 'warm beer, must be disgusting, I ain't ordering that' and those who do order that as 'Warm beer and a pork pie? Freak'.

A Frenchman coming to the land of the Rosbifs. Has it ever happened?
I hear southern England is over run with Frenchies who couldn't find jobs in their native land and so had to shake hands with the devil... er, I mean get jobs in England.

I actually tried just about every beer I could get my hands on while in England and I never found a warm one. Typically all the Americans & Canadians would laugh at the warm beer jokes while the English were completely mistified by them.

Mao: Yes, the flights are free, but you have to pay taxes. Ryanair has a complicated pricing policy that means they can use fares like that for promotion and charge those who don't book in advance more. It's clever, and they're doing very well using it.
Ted: Limeys refers to the original settlers - settlers coming from the UK kept a store of limes on board, as it was the only available source of vitamin C that would keep for the voyage, and help stave off scurvy. Hence those already there referred to them as Limeys.
Pikeys is a derogitory term here to denote townys/chavs/scum. I'm not sure how it relates to the US term for people from the UK. Possibly because it used to relate to people living in the same town they were born in (ie. Towny) and American's see the English as staying in the same country, rather than being brave and adventurous and moving to the US in the early times?
