Yeh, there are *loads* of things created to meet other people - JCR events and the like. If you don't know everyone in your year by the end of the term (save the few who do work 24/7), I'll be shocked.

    POLYMEET IN OXFORD!

      I'm game - it's been a while

See if I can get a room in Univ for the night - an opportunity I still haven't taken advantage of yet

Hey Will, I knew I had a question for you: Is Mark Hope still kicking around?

Yeah, that's him...and yeah, he was an ex-student - he seemed to have been doing a DPhil for most of his life before then

How did you manage to only go their twice? If I lived in Oxford I'd be there every day.

Opportunity never really arose - the problem with having uni mates with sh*t tastes in music on the whole...

I've never been to the Zodiac I can't even use the excuse of friends having crap taste in music - the Indie Music society's committee are friends of mine. I'm truly a failure.

But then, it's like a 10 minute walk out of the city centre. This is Oxford, my college bar is sometimes too far away, and it's less than a minute.

Avoid the North. Stick with the illusion that all of Britain is good; remain in the South

The Zodiac is a huge club where they won't let you in if you're wearing jeans isn't it? It's been 5 years so I'm not certain of the name but everyone said this one club was the best night club in Oxford but that you had to be kind of dressed up before they'd let you through the door.

For some reason I'm thinking the name of the club was Zodiac. Anyone know what the in club in Oxford was around 2000 or so?

It's not the Zodiac - the Zodiac is the indie club/gig venue. There's two clubs large clubs in Oxford, The Bridge and Park End, I'd guess the Bridge is the one you're thinking of, it's the only vaguely upmarket club.

Small Question: How do phones work in China? I got a pretty nice Nokia from China that should be GSM-enabled, so I should be able to use it in the UK. There are companies in the UK that use SIM cards, right? What company should I go for?
Who wants DVDs? Good prices! I swear!

Do you want a contract or pay as you go? Considering you're only here for a term, I'd suggest pay as you go. Oxford is *appauling* for reception though. AFAIK, Vodafone have pretty good reception, but 3 and o2 seem crap. The other major players are T-Mobile and Orange, but I haven't tried those out here.

SIM cards are easy to get, and very cheap (~£10 including £5 of calls).

I see. Now, are minutes cheap in Europe? Like, would it be convenient for me to call France, or would it be prohibatively expensive?
