I think it's important at the outset to establish that what Condi said was not what you wrote that she said. This seems to be a simple matter for you to admit (or produce a cite so that we can all judge for ourselves), and then we can go on to establish what she actually said and chose not to say.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

It seems more important you learn to understand you can't take diplo-speak at face value. You must be pretty naive if you always do so.

You haven't even cited to the diplospeak in question. I'm not impressed.

Why? So you can go and exclaim your indignation that she didn't literally say that? We've already established that dude.

Now, that's not quite the same as "US is disrespecting Europe", is it?

No. So we can go on and discuss what she said and chose not to say.

                  C'mon Colon. Stop being obtuse.

considering the haughty and crude manner the Bush administration treated European grieves in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, I did expect them to react more respectfully. Instead they once again barf we should shut up for the sake of good relations.

Well she did chose not to deny the CIA kidnapped a German citizens, nor that they held him without formal complaint, nor that they mistreated the guy.

Much more than that. According to Merkel, Rice admitted that we made a mistake in the case that you cited and that we would rectify the situation in cases where mistakes are made. This is a response neither in form nor substance that could be described accurately in the manner that you have done so.

Nope, not the same as "US is disrespecting Europe". Firstly I stated "Bush administration" not the "US". The latter only constitutes a component of the former. You are essentially claiming I believe the whole of the US is disrespecting Europe which is not true. Secondly I said "European grieves", not "Europe". You make it seem as if I believe Europe in its entirity has been disrespected, while I'm just talking about the grieves in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq that were treated haughtily and crudely. (I do have to confess it was wrong of me to use the term "Europe" while it probably would have been more correct to speak of "Chirac's, Villepin's, Schröder's and like-minded people's grieves") Moreover I stated "more respectfully", not "disrespectful", implying that there probably was a certain degree of respect, just that wasn't up to the level I expected.

                        C'mon Colon. Stop being obtuse.
Hey if you're going to whine I paraphrase Rice, you shouldn't be doing the same to my statements.

The US is short for US government. The US government is led by the Bush administration.

You didn't even cite to what you were paraphrasing. I think that she said something entirely different. IOW, you're full of ****, unless you give a cite. I can give a cite upon request.

And I think you're a hypocrit who does the exact same thing you're accusing me of, and I'm not in the mood to reward any *****ing of the kind you've been displaying.

Now that we've established this, I'm going for dinner. Cheers.

The United States has admitted that the CIA mistakenly imprisoned a German national for five months on suspicion of terrorism, German Chancellor Angela Merkel told a news conference yesterday.
                              ...

Condoleezza Rice, starting a European tour in Germany, told Merkel Tuesday that "when and if mistakes are made, we work very hard and as quickly as possible to rectify them." Rice declined to comment on the specifics of the case.
How on Earth do you translate that into...

Wow, you quote some tidbits from an article published AFTER I started this topic and somehow you connect it to that sentence? Nice one Dan. Nice work hijacking this topic as well. I'll get back to you if you should ever bother to discuss the treatment Masri received.
