ep, reject something just because it doesn't fit your sacred cows.
No. Reject it because it's retarded.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

productivity must be flat then in the last year since wages have stagnated.

If you learn it in high school, Joe Schmoe doesn't really have an excuse for believing the country is in a recession when it quite clearly is not.
Who said the country is in recession? I cheered the employment growth but I also pointed out that wages aren't keeping up with inflation for the average American and that average household networth is falling slightly. Things are doing alright but these aren't the good times rolling for most people. We could certainly do worse though.

And why do they think that? Coporate profits don't mean much to the average person's PERCEPTION of the economy, wages do.

Mostly, it's probably an inordinate focus on the price of gasoline.

                And because wages are stagnant.

EDIT: And have to tighten the belt because of heating fuel prices.

This is the important number from that article: Total employment, at 142.6m, and the civilian labour force, at 150.2m, were little changed in November.

So new jobs were added but other jobs were lost resulting in a zero net gain in jobs.

Wrong. That number is supposed to take into account both losses and gains.

One of the problems with it, though, is that it's based on an employer survey IIRC.

Do you know what zero net gain means? Probably not.

Do you realize that if that number takes into account gains and losses, then it represents a net gain? Obviously not.

0.2 in 142.6 is little change, and the title figure of 215,000 is the net gain position.
