Yeah, but I don't see why people aren't allowed to work on Sundays if they want to do so.
It's simple economics - store owners who spend all of Sunday at church tend to go out of business if other places are open.

I wouldn't mind if sundays were banned. I wouldn't have to work then. But seriously, the only real reason to ban work on sundays is because of a religious thing, and well that just shouldn't be mixing with things like the law and economics and such.
Too true, this seven day week is a time for the lazy people of yester decade. Bring on the six day week. God doesn't need his day of rest, none of us get it.
We have it, but in recent years more and more exemptions were made so that some can open sunday. I think it will fall completely sooner or later. Thing is, it has not (or not anymore) a religious background here, but is rather a battle ground for the unions. Yeah, for the consumer it sucks.
Untill about ten years ago regular shops couldn't open on sundays. When the Christian Democrats were finally pushed from power, the ban was lifted. Opening hours were also deregulated (before everything would close at 6 pm).
