  • Thanks, Veterans!

Thanks to those who gave up a portion of their lives -- many of whom put their lives in great peril and some of whom gave up their lives -- to protect our freedoms and our nation.

"Thanks" is too small a word for such great deeds.

My thoughts go out to those who have done far more than I have. Some have paid a high price for their service and done so without expectation or desire for praise. All that is asked is not to forget and don't condemn for simply serving.

Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

Hum, does this apply to those who fought on the wrong side?

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

For God and country I guess, but isn't this an American Holiday?

YAY! Everyone in my company got the day off of work today. I think I found one of the only companies which actually pays people to have all government holidays off.

I can't begin to tell you how much this means to a veteran.
                            It makes at all worthwhile.
                            Thank you, in return.

I'll be in a VFW ceremony tomorrow. Supposed to be media present.
Christmas parade is December 3rd. As always, VFW will be leading as color guard.
I know it's not likely, but anyone who happens to be in this area, I'd sure like to see you.

American holiday? Hardly! This is armistice day, on the date of the German capitulation at the end of the first world war.

We call it Remembrance Day here in Canada.

                              In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
                              Canadian Army

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
                              In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
                              In Flanders fields.
