Crosby was one of your better picks, in hindsight, although probably not worthy of being second overall. The bigger problems, as I saw them, were taking a defenseman with your third pick, trading for Hunter and Elias and picking Roenick and Foote at all.

Everyone gets burned their first draft - its almost an initiation of sorts. Hopefully you learned some valuable lessons for next year.

In the meantime, you have plenty of work ahead of you in order to finish respectably - which is still a definite possibility. There are gems to found in the rough, as it were. There are also many lessons to be learned about managing a roster, making picks, assessing players, etc. Don't give up this year and not learn those lessons, such that next year, even if you have a great draft, you mis-manage your roster into oblivion.

Feel free to make lots of trade...dump the people consistently underperforming and pick up some risks.

That what I felt about Crosby... great player, but not that great. While Foote was horrblie, Roenick not that bad.

Not that bad?? His mouth had done more off-ice than he has on-ice. He has 3x his points in penalty minutes. His career stats clearly show a steady decline since '02. And he's 35 in a league getting younger.

Red Wings' Fischer collapses on bench

Defenceman Jiri Fischer of the Detroit Red Wings is in stable condition after suffering a siezure and collapsing on the bench during Monday's game against the Nashville Predators.

Initial reports suggested Fischer may have been hit in the throat by a stick or a puck as he sat on the bench with 7:31 left in the first period. Video replays, however, showed Fischer leaning forward on the bench with his head down on the boards without evidence of any contact being made.

Medical crews did CPR on Fischer and his fiancee Avery was usherd to the bench area before he was taken out on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance.

The Predators and Red Wings went their dressing rooms and the game was delayed indefinitely.

Red Wings officials later announced to the crowd that Fischer had suffered a siezure, but was responsive and stable at a local hospital.

With the apparent good news on Fischer, it was thought the game would continue, but it has now been cancelled. The game will be made up a later date.

Good news that the player is OK. I hope his career isn't affected.

And damn bad luck for KH. He has a Wing and a Nashville player, so that drops two games from his skater total this week.

That's a good spirit. You might pay a little more attention to your bench though. You've left Langkow out of the lineup for tonight.
