This thread is not about democracy. We all agree that it's the best form of government. Doesn't mean that it's outcome is always a good thing though.

I will here agree with the lovable fat virgin with the happy dog and repeat after him: Poland scares the **** out of me. Actually not really but it is kind of... strange and ultra hyper uber conservative. That's what it seems to let out anyway. Then again I hanged out with a couple of Poles once they seemed pretty normal. A bit aloof but normal.

Q How do you stop the Polish cavalry?
A Turn off the merry go round!
Q How do you sink a Polish sub?
A Knock on the door
Q Have you heard about the new Polish golf ball?
A It's dark green, so golfers wont lose any more balls.
Q Why does the New Polish Navy have glass bottom ships?
A To see the Old Polish Navy!

A friend of mine says that the new president is a major überconservative *******. Upon reading this article, I don't understand why. So sad that Poland used to be a good country, once.I'm consitently stupid- Japher
I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Geeez... how come in 2005... some societies cannot accept that gays and lesbians isn't a sin or anything. It takes f*cking big balls to say that you have slept with a person of the same sex in 2005... because even in very progressive nations like the Netherlands, Belgium, Québec and Spain (well now under the new government) it's still a daily struggle...
I have a friend of mine who's learning slowly that's ok to want to sleep with both sex - and I see what's going through... his silence, his difficulty on putting freaking words on his feelings and I just feel sorry for that guy. I really do when I hear politicians trying to put guilt within something like 10-15% of the population...
I went through all this, I'm 22 and I'm in no way a gay activist - but geez...«Vive le Québec libre» - Charles de Gaulle

Poland is, of course, free to pass whatever laws it likes. However, the EU is free to put certain membership restrictions on its members. After all, we are a club with common standards.
You don't wear skintight latex at a country club. You don't have the State discriminate against gays and kill people in the European Union.
If you're in Europe and you want to do those things, feel free to not be in the EU and have a wonderful time chatting to Belarus about what its like.Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
