That's not even close to enough to keep up with inflation.

IIRC the 15% was over 4 years and on top of that the teachers accepted a pay freeze 2-3 years ago (which is why Campbell unilaterally extended the term of their contract)

15% over 6-7 years is hardly excessive.

I don't think there's a Canadian politician I dislike as much as Gordon Campbell.

This was the last straw for me. I'm on an all-out mission to rid the political scene of him and his band of thugs.

Don't you have to be in Canada to do that?

I still vote in elections in Canada, Dino.

I'm not a resident of the US.

Unfortunately I've never lived in BC so I can't have the pleasure of voting against Campbell. This, however, will be only the first of my anti-Campbell rants.

            You heard wrong.

            From the Globe:
The teachers' proposals dealt with issues of class size and staffing ratios. They also proposed a three-year agreement with no wage increase in the first year but a "reasonable" improvement in pay and benefits in the second and third.

[NOTE: The teacher's union's position is "Were prepared to take 0% in the first year on salary, and work at other forms of compensation on the understanding that there would be a salary increase in the second and third years."]

The teachers remained off the job, however, calling the action a political protest against the provincial government's decision to pass legislation imposing a two-year contract.

The legislation offers no pay increase for teachers and doesn't let them negotiate on issues like class size and composition.

BC voters seem stupid anyway if he's still there after being arrested on DWI charges.

Yep. That's not even a morality issue. That's something that people of both sides of the aisle can agree is completely wrong and should be stamped out.

Not that stupid. They're sort of weird, though. They swing back and forth from one end of the spectrum to the other.

And that contradicts my statement how? A 'reasonable' pay raise for them has been set at about 15 percent over 3 years.

The teachers remained off the job, however, calling the action a political protest against the provincial government's decision to pass legislation imposing a two-year contract.

False. The offer has been 0, 0, 3 for the three years of the contract, which is the same pay raise as the doctors and nurses got. Why should the teachers get greater compensation?

So are the teachers here. It's became rapidly apparent that this dispute has more to do with hating the people in power then about negotiating a better deal for the teachers.

                        What a logician you'd make.

I say that this strike has increased my dislike of him and you draw the conclusion from that I'm taking the teachers' side because I dislike Campbell.

So the Globe is wrong and you're right, eh. Got any links to back up what you say, or is this just some rumors that you heard?

Gee, thanks Wezil. Your contribution is duly noted and dismissed for its lack of substance.
Lack of substance? My point was quite clear actually.

I don't like government being in business. I want government to do only those things government is required for, such as essential services (I believe providing a standard level of education for our young to be one of these things).

Do you care to actually discuss the issue in a mature way (that may be tough) or will you just resort to the ACS standby response and say I've been "pwned"?

For a smart man you are quite the Cheney sometimes.
