...apparently our local priests believe ignorance is bliss, they never ask and we don't tell. Maybe they ask the 'regulars' but not the large mass dragged in on Easters and other holidays?
The last time I actually went '1 on 1' with a priest I was like 8 and it was fancy dress/show day at the church. Or whatever they call it.

Actually i just read were the church is trying to rule out communion on these special masses since a large turn out is to show up. They claim the communion service makes the mass as a whole alot longer then expected. and the priests are complaining of the large x amounts showing up for communion and communion only go figure ur catholic and cant go recieve communion on easter cause the priest dont want to be there that long

Yea, speaking of intermarriage and Jews... now there is some strict tradition...
Whatever rules the Catholic church has about intermarriage, the culture among Jews about intermarriage is much worse (not the more liberal ones of course). I dated a Jewish girl once... that was fun..

I was forced til was 18, snotty but that is not why i dont go anymore. Not to mention i went to an all girls catholic school grades 7 8 9 10 and 11. not to mention i went to sunday school every week one day a week from grade k through 7 we had a relegion class in 7 thro 11. I went to a few services after the age of 18 and found what the priests saying to be utter crap.
He uttered phrases like if you dont attend services weekly your soul is being compromised, and well not be alowed into heaven **** like that. The last straw came when the church and its folks told me i cant make my confirmation because i dont go to their church often enough and help raise funds for the congegeration. they said id need to enroll in a 1 year relegious teaching class at 150.00 for the class to be elegible. I was like your kidding me right. I have 18 years of relegious teaching not to mention with 5 of those years being every day for 9 months. Turned out it was about the money. I told the priest That i wouldnt pay for my soul since i know that god has looked out for me out side of church. I didnt go back for another 5 years when i got married. My ex husband new the priest and he confirmed me the sunday before my wedding. no money exchanged . That was even worse since it was done as a favor just further went to prove to me that the catholic can be bought with favors and money.
I received my confirmation when I was 11 year old.
Please don't blame the Church, just the local Priest. When I Mother died (1984) the Priest of this church in Riverbank, Ca., said it was Easter time and he did not have time to have Mass for her. So one of my cousin told me let's go the church where she goes and see what happen. At her church which my Mother has never attended said no problem, but this is Easter Weekend, so if it is OK with you (me) we'll do it on Monday.
Let face it some Priest are Priest and some just wear the clothes.
I only go to church for school assignments, and...
when visiting my aunt in South Carolina. Its much easier to endure a little bit of Catholicism on Sunday (I'm not Catholic even) than to have her preaching to me about why I should be religious every other day of my stay.
I've been to churches/mosques a few times for marriages. I've been to a large number of churches in Europe this Summer because they are so badazz from an aesthetic (and historical) point of view (obviously not in the US since Protestants have no taste) , and because they're generally free (except for the Sistine Chapel ). The last time that I'd been to a mosque for (ostensibly) a religious reason was when I was visiting some fundie cousins of mine several years ago, who dragged me to one.

Well I know my grandparents had no problem with my dad marrying my mom. OTOH they had a problem with my aunt marrying my uncle, but that's because the uncle was a Moony.
In a mixed marriage, what must the Catholic promise? The Catholic must sign promises:
To remain a Catholic.
To see to it that the children are baptized and are brought up as Catholics.
Also, the Catholic party must inform the non-Catholic of these promises.
Are the marriages of non-Catholics valid? Yes, provided all the laws of God concerning marriage are observed, the marriages of non-Catholics among themselves are valid and therefore cannot be broken.
...
What if a Catholic goes through a marriage ceremony before a Protestant minister? Such a person is not married and is guilty of mortal sin. Traditionally this sin also carried the penalty of automatic excommunication. This meant that such a person could not receive any of the Sacraments nor have a Catholic funeral, because they are not putting the Love of God first, yet choose to marry outside of the One True Faith. However, although this penalty no longer applies, a Catholic who goes through a marriage ceremony outside the Catholic Church still commits a grave sin.
Awhile ago there was the thread about the Catholic Church saying not to take the Bible so literally and some thought this was some drastic new change, although the title of that article didn't help them. This isn't unique to Apolyton as not too long ago I saw a "Catholics worship the Saints" in a thread at another forum.
May a Catholic marry a non-Catholic? You should not, except for a very serious reason.
You love them and possibly want to raise kids with them within a marriage... could that be a very serious reason?

That doesnt make any sense from my standing, since a catholic cannot marry a non catholic in a catholic cermoney unless that other person has made the sacraments required before marriage which is baptism confesion and confirmation. You cannot not be married in the catholic church with out these sacraments. I am not saying your wrong but this has been my experience.

Or unless the priest doesn't care. Which is the case quite often.
