Which city is that, it looked like a telescope to me?

My favorite US city is San Francisco. Stockholm, Copenhagen or London for my current European favs. But as I've said before it is all subjective.
But I can't support Asher's contention that Calgary is destined for greatness. The reasons why I feel it is never going to top any lists:
-High winds and highly variable weather.
-Redneck capital of the world.
-The Stampede.
-Economy is almost as cyclical and tied to oil prices as Edmonton.
-It is in the prairies. Off in the distance you can see the BC mountains but no ocean, no beautiful parks within city limits, no great views in every direction.
-It is a big sprawling mess where owning a car is almost inevitable.
-Calgary is ringed by a series of capped highly sour natural gas wells. If one blows and the prevailing winds are wrong a good chunk of the population would die.

Variable weather yes...but winds, wtf?

It's diversified immensly over the past decade, and the economy's been pretty solidly positive for several decades now...

Oh, no ocean. Every great city is on an ocean..
And those aren't BC mountains in the distance, they're mountains in Alberta...

Oh nonsense, I lived fine without a car. I had to get one when moving to Markham though...
IIRC Flubber bikes a lot of places, even.
See the attached map for the planned LRT routes...

Typical jealous BC hippy.
We'll value your opinions when you learn to elect a government that won't run your fragile economy into the ground repeatedly.
There are reasons Calgary runs circles around Vancouver in terms of growth (economically and population-wise) over the past 25 years.

Are you saying that Calgary public transit is what makes the city so much better than Vancouver?
Personally, I know nothing about Calgary transit. Just asking.
No, it was regarding RedFred's assertion that you need a car.
The vast majority of people working in the downtown core use transit, they don't drive to work...

Calgary at nights looks so, well, unimpressive. IOts like looking at San Antonio or some other burg.
Pah. NYC isn't one of the cities with the best night skyline.
