Did Timothy McVeigh and/or the Unabomber "make Al Qaeda look like a bunch of amateurs"? If not, I stand by my belief that Ted's statement was retarded...

This should provide plenty of impetus for all Arab governments to crack down on their islamic extremists. If it (the suicide bomber diffusion) really happens it is the final death blow for this nihilistic movement.

Now we're dealing with an entire network, sharing skills, information, contacts, etc. While possibly easier to track because of all the increased visibility, the threat becomes greater because of the ability to share resources.

My point was that the skills the vast majority of the insurgents and terrorists in Iraq are mastering are practically useless when it comes to launching an attack on America. Hardened fighters fanning out worldwide, if true, is certainly not a good thing, but to say that these folks will "make Al Qaeda look like amateurs" is ridiculous. The guys who hit us on 9/11 had dedicated and relatively safe bases in Afghanistan at which to work on the skills needed to infiltrate and attack the US. There's no equivalent in Iraq, where Islamists are more worried about daily survival and the launching of attacks against the American forces and Iraqi government than they are about training for the next assault on America.

Their goal is to spread chaos in Arab world and to over throw the unpopular dictators there. I understand bomb making is a highly technical skill and they've got a bunch of people who've just got an advanced degree in bomb making. Additionally, the experience of how to organize and run an underground group, how to raise money, how to spin propaganda, and similiar skills will serve them and their terrorist causes well into the future.

The point is these people are now trained and they aren't content with just keeping their Islamic revolution in Iraq. No, they want to go out into the big wide world and start blowing stuff up.

And that is different from Al Qaeda in what way? I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing how these guys in Iraq make Al Qaeda look like amateurs. Seem like the same type of characters to me, only without the infrastructure Al Qaeda used to possess.

The difference is there are now a lot more trained Islamic fanatics out there with hands on experience with armed revolts and unconventional warfare. You really don't see that?

If we just spent our time chasing Al Qaeda & the Taliban in Afghanistan then we wouldn't have this mass of experienced Jihadis, would we? There have been numerous articles which have gone over how most intelligence services agree that there has been a massive increase in terrorist recruiting since the invasion of Iraq and that Iraq is functioning as a training ground for all of these new terrorists.

Just keep your head in the hole like an ostrich, ignoring the potential problem until it actually happens.

Most off these guys are from Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Egypt, so that's the "back home" they'll be taken their mad skills to. Maybe this will show the folks back home how wonderful terrorism really is. A decade or so of this shi.....stuff should cure the Islamic world of its love of Jihad.

I don't understand how fighting in Iraq stops any terrorist attacks around the world though.

Let me check.. hmm Bali? Madrid? UK? Bali again?

That's outside US, yes, but it still means that terrorists can operate outside Iraq. I mean, they just have to .. well choose target outside Iraq. Not really that difficult, really.

Yes, Iraqi terrorists might want to stay in Iraq and fight there, but according to my memory, almost everonye in 9/11 were Saudis???
