That was a for instance. I was merely pointing out that the political reality was based on a string of falsehoods and that it wasn't preferable to have decisions based on demonstrable falsehoods, because there are a lot of very negative knock-on effects.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

But the political reality isn't based on ten thousand dead or people being raped and murdered in the Superdome. It's based on the fact that a major American city (and several smaller ones) was destroyed. Even if everyone had been safely evacuated before the storm, the GOP would be falling all over itself to pay for repairs. They aren't going to be the party that can be blamed for losing a city.

Sure it is. Don't be naive.

Oh quit trying to blame this on liberal reporters.

Well, Patroklos was all about fighting the Trojan War for the Greeks, but Achilles did not want his beloved companion/cousin to fight in the war.
Perhaps that is just a little too fitting

So was I imagining all of that press coverage or not?

Most of the press was not allowed in the city until several days afterwards. You are likely thinking about the press coverage from day three onward or of one of the very few reporters who snuck into the city.

If there was no problem, as you claim, then why did all of the news agencies sue FEMA to get access?
