Whenever I play the Pirates in SMAX, I always use Scandanavian names and those from the various Viking Sagas. I see them as going a-Viking.

Not *real* cowboys, but the wild west is popular up there, probably because many of the locals never evolved beyond the 19th century.
          As for the surströmming link:
Although being born and raised in the north, I have never tasted the stuff, my survival instinct prevents me from eating stinking rotting fish.

I think meatballs with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam is a slightly better Swedish food export

I must say I've never had aquavit and would like to try some. I think I'll pick some up at the market next time I go.

Brief googling for "united scandinavia" brought up this site with nifty little graphics of territory shifting around over the centuries.

It's very good(but strong). I suggest you try it together with lutefisk.

Google says lutefisk is fish soaked in lye. As in the stuff they make soap out of.

It sounds fishy(), but it's actually quite good. But if you don't want to eat that, but still wants to try out aquavit, you should try it with what we in Norway call "pinnekjøtt" or "svineribbe". I don't know what's the name in English, but the first is the rib of lamb, the other of swine. Both are delicious!

'cause they all hate each other.

What's more surprising is that the United States have stayed united so long.

Canola oil doesn't sound nearly as exotic.
