Their NFL predictions were just plain stupid... it sounds as if they are way off on NHL as well.

And Calgary is better as a team than last year while the other good teams were diluted, this year they're going all the way.

well I'd expect you to feel that way...

but honestly, they are a two man team... without Iginla and Kiprusoff, Calgary is nothing... the last season, they got hot in the playoffs and had good goaltending. In the NHL in this day and age, that is usually how you win a Stanley Cup (or get close to it). We'll see how the new rule changes affect things.

Calgary's lack of talent past Iginla is quite telling just by looking at Jarome's numbers. 41 goals but only 32 assists... that's because nobody else on that team can score goals. Who else can they rely on? Tony Amonte? pfffft... good luck with that.

Honestly... I think the NHL is a lot like the NFL this year... the cliche about "Any Given Sunday"... I look up and down the NHL rosters this year and I see a lot of parity. Sure, some teams are stronger than others, but there aren't any juggernauts.

I don't think anyone can effectively rank the NHL. It's been too long since these teams have played. The rules have been changed. There has been lots of player movement. There are too many variables.

But Sports Illustrated is in the business of selling magazines, and they have to print something, even if it's bull****.

And it doesn't surprise me that a Chicago and a Toronto fan wouldn't know a great team if it bit them in the ass.

Lindros and Allison are already being written off, but they've got the skills to deliver.

Sundin will put in yet another banner year, particularly with the support from the wings.

The blueline is solid with an excellent mix of speed and toughness.

Write off the Leafs at your peril.

Leafs will finish last in their division... no doubt about it.

They might have a snowball's chance in hell of overtaking Buffalo for fourth in that division... but that's the best they can hope for.

Boston, Ottawa, and Montreal will all be better than the Leafs.

Note to Sava: getting into the playoffs is not determined by where a team finishes in their division. It's by conference.

In the east: Boston, Ottawa, Philly, Tampa Bay, and New Jersey are almost shoo-ins. That leaves three spots open.

Forget about the Caps, Hurricanes, Sabres, and the Rangers.

Florida remains a big question mark (great goalie, but forwards are wobbly) as does Pittsburgh (great scoring, but no goalie).

Montreal could be strong depending on which Theodore shows up this year.

The Islanders could sneak in, but if so then barely.

So Toronto is well placed to make the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Chicago....

It amazes me that Leafs fans repeatedly set themselves up for disappointment, decade after decade...

Montreal's going to make the playoffs. We have basically the same team from last time around, and in general everybody ahead of us got weaker.

The Leafs, on the other hand, will do what the Leafs do best: suck complete ass and make fools of themselves.
