It's not lack of religion that deludes people into condemning a country for defending itself, but propaganda. The Vatican recently refused to condemn suicide bombings against Israelis and Anglican figures repeatedly denounce Israel. I won't start on the Vatican's WWII record.

It's true that the the Protestant Right are amongst the few defending Israel's right to defend itself, and I don't know why that is, but the reason why so many Christians, Muslims, atheists, agnostics and others blame Israel is simply because of the lies.

i'm both shocked and appalled that this frankly piss poor troll has generated so many serious replies

Even if it's an exaggerated version of his opinions it could still be a good starting point for a debate.
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars

Personally I find the cast system in India very backward, plus a whole host of other things, but that doesn't mean I think India is barbaric.
I do not hate Christianity , in the abstract . But I do despise its agents , and what they have attempted to do in India . I also dislike the fact that it allows only one method of reaching what it claims to be God , and also that it asks you to believe on faith , not experience . The harm caused by Christian missions cannot be overstated . I have examples , if you want them .

As for the caste system - I'm sick and tired of telling people that

            a) It was a system of classification based on the type of work you do , not a system whereby you were born into one caste and had to stay there . Valmiki , the author of one of the two greatest Katha , was originally one of the casteless .

            and that

            b) Discrimination on the basis of caste has now been illegalised . In fact , there are seats reserved for the "Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes" in all governmental institutions . In the cities , nobody cares what your caste is .

Religions are inherently arrogant, and so are we. Arrogance helps drive progress... albeit often in violent ways such as militarism... If someone is convined they found a special pipeline to the almighty, they're bound to feel better for themselves than they feel for the poor souls who haven't found enlightenment.
