  • Refugees in Houston "thays" wearing out their welcome.

Just to let some of you know what is going on in Houston:

Talked to a volunteer who spent one day on the food handout line and told me he was not going back to those "bunch of ungratfuls SOB's". Told me of how those people spent their two thousand dollars on Nike,Puma shoes, boom boxs, music cds, pizzas, hunnybuns and sodas.
Said he was serving food and the people complained about the service and made racial remarks about him {being white} "how bout time that a white man had to serve blacks" this is what made him not want to come back.
I ask if it was a single incedent but he said no that it was the majority.

["Thays" prefer to be called "suvivers" rather than "refugees"]

Heard the Nike donated shoes for the kids to go to school, people were seen selling them for cash.
Local church folk got together and cooked food for the "survivers" out of the kindness of their hearts.
The "suvivers" said they didnot like the food but had they come "ask them first what they had liked" they would then eaten what was given to them.

No one has asked for building material to be sent to rebuild "thays" homes as only cash money is wanted.

    One more......
FEMA got these luxery cruise liners to dock in Galveston..NOT ONE of the "Survivers" wanted to go take advantage of the free offer of free room and board for SIX MONTHES!

There are many of sordid storys like these coming out of Houston.News media does'nt want to carry the stories.
I suppose it has something to do with race...IMHO.

From what I have been hearing people here are getting sick of the whinning and ungrateful adittude being displayed.
I think there will be a puplic backlash as to people being so generous and opening up the wallet during the next crises.

Shame on them for not kissing the feet of their glorious Texas saviours.

Kinda hard to help someone who will not make an effort to help themselves.

            FYI
Most of these people have been getting free giveouts from the government most of their lifes.
They have come to expect everything to be given to them.
It is a case of "white mans guilt" that this social mentality has gone on for so long.

Where is the incentive to better yourself if everything is given to you without effort.

                I like Docfeelgood's location..."Humble, Texas."

But I agree. I don't think they deserve to complain because Texas is helping them out. But I'm just as sure that there are a heck of a lot of people out there that ARE grateful for help.

Sounds like a few sour apples are spoiling the bunch.

Those lazy hurricane victims. They should just work harder next time.

It's unfortunate, no doubt. But I gotta say, if I watched my state and local government officials screw up my evacuation; then watched the Feds mutter excuses about not knowing things that could be learned from watching tv; then saw the rescue effort prioritize the rescue of people in luxury hotels over the people in the Superdome; then heard the Prez say, "you're doin' a heck of a job, Brownie"; then heard that his mother thought that it was okay for me to sleep in the AstroDome, because its better than what "those people" are used to -- I'm not sure how much gratitude I could bring myself to feel about my situation, however much such gratitude might be deserved.

I also gotta say, if I ever lose everything I have in this world, and someone gives me a pair of Nikes, you can bet your ass I'll be selling them, buying some cheap sneaks at Payless, and pocketing the difference.

Well Doc, you are talking about people who:

                          1. have their homes wrecked by a hurricane
                          2. don't know when they can go back
                          3. are living in a place where conditions are, frankly, piss poor

As a result, you are looking at a bunch of cranky people. I don't pretend that I understand - my natural reaction is to snap back. That's why I am not a nurse, social worker, etc. Anyway, volunteers helping them should know this and interpret their reactions in this perspective. If they don't, maybe the NPOs aren't doing things right.

If they've already bought shoes with their allowance maybe they had no need for the donated ones and so sold them for money to buy something they did need?

Maybe they really, really didn't like the food prepared. For instance, some people just assume the black people are crazy about fried chicken. Some black people get really really angry about such presumptions.

Poor people don't spend a lot of time on cruise ships. maybe they're a little fearful of living on a boat. Recent experience with large bodies of water probably haven't helped.
