franky it has to be the superdome the astro dome is in houston and the refugees havent arrived there as of yet. But the reports of gun figthts have been documented by the hospitals and the ng a bit earlier. There was a col. that said the rescue efforts have been slowed due to gunfire and violence. On a happier note there will be 25000 refugees relocated to san antonio at an old af base that was closed a few years back. These folks should start arriving with in the next few days.

Man, that's totally messed up. Fricken civilian snipers shooting at people just for kicks. No, I don't think artillery should be involved. They said that Police SWAT snipers have taken up positions to protect people, and that some National Guardsmen have stationed themselves to protect the public.

But it seems like no matter what kind of order is imposed, the majority is going to protest.




So...where's the Texas bashing now people? They're taking all the refugee's that they can. Nuff said.

Just saw CNN again and the Louisiana's governor.

She said she's calling in the Louisiana NG that just came back from Iraw and to quote her: "These people have just come back from Iraw and are battletested."

That's what I'M wondering. I though Ogie Oglethorpe was in N.O.....but I doubt it.

What sucks is that while LA took the brunt of the hit, there are other US states that were hit pretty bad as well....

I'm worried how this'll shape the US in the recent future.

I would urge a bit of caution in reacting to some of these stories. Both CNN and MSNBC reported that at least some of the instances of "firing at choppers" involved individuals firing guns in the air and demanding that guardsmen take their families on board. It's not desirable behaviour, to say the least, but it's a long way from shooting AT choppers. Who can say what we would do if our kids were extremely ill? There may well be other, more malicious attacks, but rumors are just running wild right now.

Another example is the "wild and lawless" Convention Center. This evening I saw very disturbing footage from an MSNBC cameraman who visted it today. Some 15,000 people were directed to take refuge there and yet there's not a single representative of local government on the scene (contrast this with the relatively heavy presence at the Superdome). Not a single bus has come to get them, and all the people looked to be orderly, yet extremely tired and scared. The cameraman reported that he personally witnessed to old men die on the steps (he guessed heat, but who knows), and there were women with dead babies in their arms. He insisted that during the few hours he toured the scene that he spotted no weapons, just honest, decent folks abandoned and forgotten.

My natural instinct with any news story is to doubt and look for agendas....but this was difficult to accept as anything other than face value.

Let's pray that rumors of violence don't doom these people.

I would personally "honeycomb" this problem. Establish L&O at the highest concentration of people, supply these people with water and food. Then cordone off another area and do the same thing.

Do the "honeycomb" effect. But at the same time, use whatever chopper is available, civvie or other, to airdrop supplies to those lone survivors (with high concentrations).

Unfortunately, at this point, it's all about numbers. It might be horrible to admit, but that's the plain truth. BUT all these civvie programs that would have helped in this time of need, these programs have had their budgets cut.

I have nothing against looters. But if they start shooting, you shoot back. Seems pretty simple to me.

Not so simple. Am's shooting at Am's. Frivolous lawsuits would be rampant here. A shooters family member sues the govt because of wrongful death and all that jazz. All that legal bullcrap.


That, and the PR problem would be bad. But I think the majority of Am's would actually cheer if an Army or SWAT sniper takes out a gangbanger sniper.

Hell, that might make a movie.

Good point Kull.

These people were left behind. Those that sought shelter in the Superdome were given nothing to eat, and were held there like they were in prison. They had no information about what was happening. So using guns to signal helicopters for rescue might seem like a good idea. Or set a building on fire and hope the fire department comes so they can get out. Some are looting, but are they looking for supplies or just trying to stay alive?

Louisiana's governor disagrees with you. Although I suspect her words were just empty threats. Which are really meaningless considering people in New Orleans can't hear her words.

Not in LA, but I'd bet that there are a few attorney's out there that are drooling at the legal bonuses they can reap.



I hope that the LA National Guard restores some resemblance of order.

And start taking out these armed gangs. I'm pretty sure our nation would agree that these people should be 'sanctioned'.



....Oh wait! The ACLU would probably find some way to get their money....
