I mean the first thing I always consider is what the local rabbi would think.....

    • I brought it up, that's why.

Why do you have to be such a prik? Comrades need to act with a certain level of decorum.

      • Because it's as dumb as bringing up a Catholic perspective on this. There are enough problems with this without bringing up boring theological debates...

                • Yes, most owners run. Which is why your suggestion that the folks taking stuff from stores might be owners is even sillier.

I am not suggesting anything. I just think your idea of shooting or going around arresting people who take stuff from stores on the moment is ****ing silly.

and I would prefer a version that doesn't screw up the page.

As Kuci notes, anything of such personal value would most likely be of no value to a looter and wouldn't be stolen anyway.

Otherwise, if my tv/computer/stereo/bike/car/etc. would be destroyed if not stolen, I could care less which happens. Either way, I won't have it any more. Only a pretty person would be concerned over it, particularly given circumstances like what's happening in New Orleans.

                          • what was particularly interesting about the Jewish law citations, is that it turns out that Jewish law is actually a tad further "left" than my own intuitive position (thats what comes from spending more time studying economics than halacha) It raises the speficic question of abandoned property. It also raises the question of someone who DOES salvage property on behalf of the owner, having a rightful claim for wages, which is an interesting concept, showing at the same time a concern for property, and yet a very strong concern for the rights of workers.

Oh please. Spare me the back tracks. You clearly believed that the people calling looting what it was were being self-righteous folk for daring to 'pontificate on the right and wrong behavior of desperate people who are trapped in a disaster zone'. Hell you even denied that they were looting things other than food.

                              • Only good and decent people with the best of intentions should be allowed to loot and pillage. The others are just causing trouble and giving looting a bad name.
