okay, which internet sources are you guys using. The only sites I've been using is Drudge report and cnn.com. Drudge is too sensationalist with his headlines. So I tend to not to believe it unless it's from a legit news source.

I have to say that the lack of planning for this hurricane is absolutely tragic. This was an event that was so predictable and so predicted, that the lack of real preparations are criminal. CNN keeps saying that the authorities are "overwhelmed", as if that is an excuse for the lack of an effective disaster plan. The confusion and lack of coordination of the relief agencies is obvious from watching the news coverage.
A day before the hurricane hit , the mayor of New Orleans said "everyone out", but forgot that 1/3 of the population has no car! There is no plan for those folks at all! The rich and middle income people got out, and the poor were left to drown. So they went to the Superdome, which has since become almost uninhabitable and the authorities have no plan to evacuate the people in it.
I watched the Governor of Mississippi lament the failure of many of his citizens to obey the evacuation order. He seems to have no idea that hundreds of thousands of poor people have no vehicle at all! Why was there not a real mobilization of transportation resources of the several states in time to get these people out? And there is no housing plan for the nearly 1 million people that are now homeless.
If this were not so tragic, it would be laughable. What a farce!

This is why I ask where you guys get your news. i can't find any news story that said the entire city of New Orleans is being evacuated, or the superdome is being evacuated.
The mayor of New Orleans is on the phone on CNN right now. He's not mentioning any evacuation.

If you read some of the survivor stories - as well as the pre-storm commentary from the folks who decided to stay home, there's a common thread: People telling tales about how they or some friend or family member survived Camille - the underlying assumption being that she was the biggest baddest storm to ever come down the pike....leaving them unable to visualize the reality of her bigger, badder sister. Until she actually strolled through the front door, packin' 190 gusts and 30 foot surge.
So you could make the case that Camille has actually killed twice. To La Fayette, as fine a gentleman as ever trod the Halls of Apolyton
From what I understand of that Civ game of yours, it's all about launching one's own spaceship before the others do. So this is no big news after all: my father just beat you all to the stars once more. - Philippe Baise

Well, I got all my info almost exclusively through DU. Mostly, it was people posting info gotten from news sources in the immediate effected area, one news channel in particular. Also, people were watching the coverage on different channels (FOX, CNN, MSNBC etc.) and posted what they saw for those watching something else. Obviously, not a whole lot of first-hand info was getting through since power is out through much of the region. Even most cellphones don't work since the towers ran out of backup generator power. The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

Why should they have to pay at all? What is your government for?

Through the photos in this slideshow from WWLTV (the "one news channel in particular" I mentioned before) and Google Earth I've found at least two of the levee breaches. Both of them are only a few blocks inland from the lakefront. Not totally suprising; that's where the water pressure would be greatest relative to the overall length of the individual drainage canals. The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

The casinos floated away.
State law requires the casinos to be floating. I never understood that. If you are going to build casinos, do it right. Is it less moral to have casinos sitting on the land of Mississippi rather than in the gulf of Mexico?
Las Vegas has casinos everywhere, and we are a very moral city.
