Indeed . Though Kirkland is a very good keeper and will be a fine backup.
Anyway, with Robinho's performance, how quickly do you think Owen decides to move? Whether it is to Liverpool or Newcastle, Owen has to realize his time at Bernbau is just about over.

Unfortunately, Benitez doesn't seem to want Owen back, so it seems NUFC is his only realistic choice. Which, of course, is fortunate for you.

Unless Owen continues to be a prat and would rather be a 4th choice striker. I mean he turned down Everton who are UEFA Cup bound and he hasn't said jack about NUFC's offer.

Speaking of Everton, didn't they get knocked out of the Euro Cup?

Hmmm... I thought since they lost in CL qualifying they went directly to the UEFA Cup... or is that only in group stages. Frankly, it gets a bit confusing for me when CL teams that aren't good enough get dropped down to the UEFA Cup.

Everton are in the UEFA now along with Bolton and Middlesbrough, should still be in the CL though, having a perfect goal ruled out near the end, surprisingly Collina was getting it wrong all night.

how can one goal affect the winner in a 4-2 cup tie?

I'm not surprised Owen wouldn't go to Everton. Shearer memorably turned down the scum, and I don't think he'd ever have gone to Sunderland, no matter how good they were and how much cash they'd throw at him. Some things are bigger than cash in football.

It was 1-1 on the night at that time (3-2 on agg).

Owen has to go Newcastle though, right? I mean he's wasting his time at Madrid, and Benitez doesn't really seem interested. Newcastle may not be in good shape but for once managerial instability may actually encourage the move...Souness
Nice snippet from today's paper recording Souness's week, ending with "spend's whole day hiding from chairman in the car park".
The crossword was atrocious today, but *gritting teeth* David Pleat was right about Newcastle wasting their time playing balls up to Shearer with no-one there to collect those he wins.
