But to discuss his decision not to sue... probably a smart idea even if he is innocent. He would need to win, and can't take the chance he would lose. Legal experts probably told him that he couldn't win the case because of the lack of evidence. While he might be able to make them squirm, there isn't enough evidence to prove either way... and he would probably not win.
Especially since he would probably need to take the lawsuit to that country (France). For all the contracts I've amended and set up many corporations insist (or try very hard) to get any potential lawsuit problem handled in their home state for that "home advantage."

Even if he won, it wouldn't prove he never used drugs & the accusations would still continue. So at best he would be back at square 1. Not to mention give L'Equipe (his opponent) a publicity dream for months while this was happening so L'Equipe would drag it out as long as possible.

I see no advantage for him to revive the suspicions about him and later not do anything about it, so someone changed his mind. He's retired and if he only wanted publicity he could have done something else.

Lance took some time to cool off and have sex with Cheryl Crowe. On the lawsuit, even if Armstrong could prove 100% that he never took a banned substance in his life, his lawsuit could fail if the papers could show a reasonable basis for their stories.

Secondly even if he won what would he get? Did he lose money as a result ??

All that said, something stinks here. There is no way that results of old samples, provided for testing of a new technique and provided anonomously should have ever seen the light of day

      • Furthermore, he probably looked at some polls of what the American public thinks about it, and saw that this controversy didn't matter to most Americans.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Ya and perhaps he didn't lose any of his endoresement contracts or anything so his lawyers are telling him it would be a long hotly contested trial in which even if he completely won, all he gets is a nominal sum

              Armstrong cleared of doping charges

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - Independent Dutch investigators cleared Lance Armstrong of doping in the 1999 Tour de France on Wednesday, and blamed anti-doping authorities for misconduct in dealing with the American cyclist.

A 132-page report recommended convening a tribunal to discuss possible legal and ethical violations by the World Anti-Doping Agency and to consider "appropriate sanctions to remedy the violations.
