On the contrary, Danes should be at the forefront of this, precisely because of what you're alluding to - Bjarne Riis' extraordinary crime of mass deception in the 90's, culminating with his 1996 "win" (a deception which rapidly and justly fell totally apart to anyone but the most stubborn and naïve).

I've made no secret of this, as you seem to insinuate. I have in fact brought it up every time there was an occasion to do so.

This incredible fraud was what made me open my eyes to today's harsh, highly unflattering realities of what was once a magnificent sport. I used to follow cycling ardently, but no more. I've finally grown tired of being cheated on. Yes, the cheating is committed not so much among the "athletes" themselves (every one of them knows the game), but by the "athletes" against the millions of fools across the world who for some reason refuse to see what is happening.

I only wish more people would wake up and make a decision to quit the cycling fan scene, thereby helping to remove the real foundation for the mass abuse of enhancers at the elite level. No fans, no money and celebrity status, hopefully less incentive to cheat in order to reach the top of the podium, perhaps one day the return of some real competition and a measure of sportsmanship. Then, maybe, we can talk again.

Cycling has never been cleaner than it is today.

                              • While doping to win a bunch of sporting events is pretty dishonest ... let's be fair ... it's still a lot better than what our politicians do.
