If Abbas dosen't stop all terrorist acts against Israel in one year, I think carpet bombing the west bank and the gaza strip into sand would be apropriate.
of course I dont agree with this, though i understand where it is coming from.

If Abbas doesn't stop, then there will be much bitterness among the Israelis over giving up land for a ephemeral peace.

I hope very much too, that the sacrifice made by the Jews will provoke the desired response from the Palestinians.

        short version

If Abbas takes the necessary steps(and the Pal polity supports him) , toward cooperation with Israel, and Hamas and IJ are disarmed, or terror is otherwise suppressed, then the next steps will be to negotiate a withdrawl from most of the West Bank about 8%, where most Israeli settlers live, will be annexed to Israel, but equivalent parts of pre-67 Israel will be transferred to the Pals as compensation. Some fairly complex solution will be instituted in Jerusalem, and palestinian refugees will recieve monetary compensation for giving up the right of return. There will be a secure transport route linking Gaza and the West Bank, and the security fence will probably be removed, at least in many places.

OTOH if terrorism continues, and Abbas is seen to be unserious, or ineffective in stopping it, Israel will likely withdraw from most the West Bank anyway. Unilaterally. However it will look very different from the above. Israel will probably withdraw TO the security fence, leaving over 15% of the West Bank in Israeli hands, which will be annexed. There will be no compensation in territory, no compensation to refugees, and no palestinian national rights in Jerusalem.

My understanding is that only about 7% of the West Bank would be cut off by the current route of the security fence.

The disengagement is probably one of the best world news of this year. If it wasn't for all those plane crashes and terror attacks elsewhere, this time's news would be a fantastic enjoyment for me

why tolkein was better than withdrawing from Gaza

                            1. Tolkien didnt divide the Jewish people, other than literary types and nerds

                            2. Tolkien had good poetry, instead of hackneyed songs.

                            3. the hardcover had nice colors, instead of orange

                            4. Tolkien had Elves. No elves in the disengagement

                            5. The occupation of Mordor has no projected end

                            6. In Tolkien, the lost king returns. Meanwhile we're still waiting.

                            7. When the Elves go to elvenhome, nobody bothers them about it.
