  • Where is your happy place

I'll not go into detail about what a happy place is. This should be a common enough term. Something you may have heard a psycholigist use (at least the one's on tv- and that's where I get all my information from ).

So where is it? Is it a beach? which beach? who is there?

and try to keep this clean. Sure orgies are fun, but eventually you get tired of all the sex. . I was looking for more realistic settings.

on second thought, the title of this thread looks very much like a reference to genitalia. Perhaps I should have though of that before posting. So don't include that in your answers either!

Diamond Head beach, in the water, waiting for the next swell to come in. Even if it's flat, just being out there in the water zoning out staring at the horizon and watching the sun set is very zen-like.

Just being offshore by 100-200 yards in the ocean by yourself while you're just waiting for the next big swell is very soothing for me.

Far more happier and spiritual than at the bottom of a bottle watching adult swim (which was going to be my original answer... )

I have to think about my happy place a little. I'm not really sure. Perhaps this is why I'm so stressed and unhappy all the time.

I'm a man of extremes. I enjoy 2 activities that are pretty much unrelated in all ways. I enjoy hiking, and I enjoy computer games. So my happy place would be both places. I would have 2 happy places.

As for hiking, there are so many beautiful places, it's hard to choose one. There are the local places I see most often: red rock canyon, Mt. Charleston, but they can't compare to further off places which are more beuatiful such as Lake Tahoe, the Sierras. Zion is beautiful too. And I haven't even seen places in other countries (i've only visited cities in other countries- not the wilderness). And I run into a similar problem with computer games. I doubt I could choose one. But it would probably be a civ style game or a roleplaying game. Either civ3, smac, BG2, or NWN. Or perhaps civ4- we shall see.

As for who is with me, well that's a tough one. I've always been kind of a loner. Yes this is why I don't have a girlfriend, not because I can't get one (though that is also true ). I prefer to be alone a lot of the time (but not all the time- I am no hermit). I have no desire to have someone nag me after getting home from a hard days work. Okay work isn't that hard, but I still don't want to hear it. I've already accepted dying alone. I'm prepared to accept my choices in life. In answer to my question. Only my dog would be with me.

Being active in something is always good.

Shoot, I surf, swim, dive, run, and (occassionally) weight lift. But I'm also a rabid gamer and drink almost 5 times a week.

Although since the surf here has been pretty crappy, I've been doing much more of category 2 and a lot less of category 1...

Well I suppose I have two 'happy-places'. One is external, in that it exists in reality, and the other is internal, in that it only exists in my mind.

The external happy-place is a short walk from where I live. I basically live on a peninsular of a lake, and on this peninsular is a ridge with a national park. My happy place within this area is a lookout with a spectacular view across the lake of one of the larger suburbs on the other side. I particularly like to walk up to this lookout at dusk and watch the lights over on the other side come on (of course, I stumble about in the dark until I make it back to the road, but its worth it ).

The internal happy-place is an entire fantasy world. I write about it whenever I have an urge to do something creative (and get bored of gaming/uni/essay writing). Of course, not all the events that unfold in this world are good ones (have to make the overall plot compelling somehow don't I?), but it still provides satisfaction to be able to delve into this world, as my creativity is something I know to be one of my greater strengths, and delving into this world is affirmation of that.

The pond on the bottom two acres where we live - it's about a quarter acre pond and it's full of waterlillies (up to fifty blooms at a time), and my little girl loves to go out on the gazebo and watch all the dragonflies while throwing little sticks in the pond. Sometimes she giggles.

Then in the autumn or early spring on grey, blustery cold days she likes to go out on the gazebo and just watch with this odd look on her face. Her eyes are grey, and its a quite unique juxtaposition. We just sit there enjoying the quiet and the wind until she becomes to chilly.
