Tom Cruise well and truly embarassed himself on public television. I watched the show with my mom, and both our mouth's were agape at the site of him acting out arrogance so obscene that we looked at eachother - shocked.

He was also tremendously patronizing. Considering the **** Tom was dishing out, Matt Lauer was a figure of grace and goodwill. If I had been Lauer, I would have laughed at him.

I'm not sure who is doing Tom's PR but they are doing a horrible job of it.

I don't know how long this fake, "he isn't gay, he is hooked up with so and so (who just happens to be a young actress)" charade can last.

The blatant overselling/overacting of his love for Katie Holmes, (which just happens to have taken place when both of them are releasing major movies), is definitley over the top.

Now Tom is doing the most taboo thing a celebrity can do, and that is having an opinion, and letting everyone else know about it.

Look, it's his life, but whoever is doing the PR is totally dropping the ball. He's the most bankable star for the last 20 years so you just don't waste him like that.

What's funny is that there is a slew of more safe remedies for depression, which sometimes can be as simple as B-vitamins and tyrosine. (These are even found in the drink Red Bull, which party people often mix with their booze to keep themselves feeling good, to mask the depressive effects of alchohol).

I wonder how Steven Spielberg puts up with him? They've done a couple of movies together recently. Spielberg seems to me to be a fairly laid back guy, I can't quite picture him putting up with this sort of arrogance. In particular there's a rumor that Cruise turned down an actress seeking a role on Mission Impossible 3 simply becasue she refused to become a scientologist.

First, I've heard his PR guy is also a Scientologist, so that could explain a lot right there.

Second, "most bankable?" I doubt that. He hasn't had a really big hit in a while, so I think he's seen his star fading and is clawing at trying to get it back. And I'd say Hanks is much more consistently bankable star.

Yep, Hanks, Willis, Crowe, Foxx, Washington are all probably more "bankable". There may be others.

Well, the arguments in that interview are utter bollocks...I'm not sure if TC realizes that ritalin ain't an antidepressant. SSRIs worked great for me, anyway. Before I was miserable for no reason. Now, whenever I'm unhappy, I can figure out what's upsetting me and fix it. Or learn to deal with it, at least. My depression was so bad I came pretty close to insane at times. Ya can't get people to exercise or take vitamins when they're crying for no reason and just want to hide in bed all day. Jeez, that was freaking nuts.

Is there a "boycott scientologist stars" movement around somewhere? Mind you, Minority Report was the last Cruise film I've seen that I'd see again anyway, but it'd be nice to send an organized message that nobody's going to support this crap with their $8.50.

Actors have just as much right to say what they think as anyone else. The only difference is that if a famous actor does it, people listen (partially because the media announces whatever someone with remote fame says.)

If, God willing, I ever become famous, you can bet your ass I'm going to use my fame to influence people, and maybe try to get things accomplished that I and like-minded people want to see.
Remember a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Actors are not experts of neurology or psychology or whatever field that the issue du jour is in, they are just that, actors, that is their profession. They should keep quiet unless they know what the hell they are on about (and so many of them seem to be as thick as pig excreta it would be all the better).

Oh, and don't forget that Ronald Reagan, Charlton Heston, and Arnold Schwartzenegger were all actors, for those conservatives out there who think "liberal Hollywood" should stay out of politics.
So idiots span the political spectrum? Well as for those names, I'd rather forget them if it's all the same

Probably because Tom Cruise is a sycophant to Spielberg, and doesn't treat him like he treated Matt Lauer. Remember, this is SPIELBERG, perhaps the single biggest name in hollywood.

Those who tend to be patronizing of those they consider 'lower' than them also tend to be submissive and subservient to those they consider 'higher'. Spielberg probably has no trouble directing Cruise on set because Cruise knows - you don't question Spielberg.

Funnily enough, depression increased my thirst for alcohol, while it didn't make the thought of drinking red bull seem any more thinkable.

Antidepressants destroyed my tolerance for alcohol which still hasn't balanced itself out. However the things got me through a very, very difficult time in my life. As I mentioned to Ecthelion, if I didn't have Prozac at the time that 'Novartis business' happened, I doubt I'd have been here now...
