I would have at least left the kid with a weapon of some sort, or ya know, maybe taken him with me. at twelve you can still be a nuisance but a controllable one.

Lazy parenting, poor thinking, probably some lying going on, maybe even some insanity or post partum andrea yates style depression.

I think that maybe there should be some sort of parenting education classes or standards set up, to keep this from "accidentally" and accidentally happening. Apparently people are this stupid, so we need to divert funds that keep people from smoking (a self imposed doom) and spend more on preventing senseless crap like this.

It should be made mandatory for fiuture parents to obtain a permit in which they would be required to take classes or whatever.

However this would require 'accidents' to be aborted.

Um, no it wouldn't. There are other punishments that don't involve death, dismemberment, jail time, or even removing the child from the household. A hefty fine or negation of tax breaks would be enough.

Or a scarlet letter on both parents.

I was jsut trying to reference Plato but yes I agree.

That whole idea is quie similar to the caste system in India. And that wasn't really to human rights friendly. You know with the whole "untouchables" and all.

If you're looking at genetic tinkering, not necessarily if you put into place and enforce strict limitations into what can and cannot be modified. Don't like the gender of your baby? Too f*cking bad. Want a white baby instead of a black one? Adopt. Want a curly blond instead of long brown hair? Hair straighteners and dyes, aisle 5. Worried about the prospects of Little Jonnie becoming the next Liberace or Betty Sue become a militant butch lesbian? Hate the sin, love the sinner, or just deal with your own sexual insecurities. Want your child to have excellent mental or athletic abilities? Public education is "free", spending time with your child is benefitial for the whole family, and God knows there's umpteen billion ways to make exercise fun and enjoyable.
