Hate to say it... it does look like a gimmick. The only think I can think of it being used in shooters and strategy games, (Civ 4 anyone?) basically, they reinverted the mouse. Hopefuly ixnay is right, and you came still use the gamecube controller...Former President, Vice-president and Foreign Minister of the Apolyton Civ2-Democracy Games as 123john321

Man, if it comes with Fred Savage wouldn't that be the coolest thing ever!

Then again, if it had a lot of usability problems, would Nintendo really roll it out as their main controller? If it was just a gimmick, you'd think they'd just bring it out later as an option add-on, like the powerglove, not make it integral to the system. So maybe it actually works.
Remember, they were the first to come up with the Rumble Pack, now everyone uses it. Some gimmicks turn out to be the real deal. (the rest of course, are just gimmicks)Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012

Nintendo has already used tilt sensors in some gameboy games (Kirby's Tilt & Tumble, Warioware Twisted), so this controller seems like the natural next step for them.
If it works I can see a lot of unique games coming out for the new system and this might sell a lot (especially if the console is way cheaper than the X360 or PS3) - get one of the other consoles for your standard games and a Nintendo for the unique exclusive games.

It vibrates the controller which throws off the analog stick's position slightly.

I wonder if you can hold the new controller like an old-style joypad, one hand on the d-pad, the other on the two bottom buttons?Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012
