    • Hate to say it... it does look like a gimmick. The only think I can think of it being used in shooters and strategy games, (Civ 4 anyone?) basically, they reinverted the mouse. Hopefuly ixnay is right, and you came still use the gamecube controller...

Man, if it comes with Fred Savage wouldn't that be the coolest thing ever!

The whole point was this technology isn't new, Nintendo already tried to market a form of it earlier as a PowerGlove and it flopped (it was a gimmick).

My biggest question is if the damn thing really works. After watching the video, if it actually works as seemlessly as they show in that promo (nothing ever does of course) then, wow, it realy would be revolutionary and a hella cool thing - not a gimmick. If you spend half the time struggling to move the controller in the right way for the game to recognize your command properly, then its gonna flop and Nintendo will be done.

Then again, if it had a lot of usability problems, would Nintendo really roll it out as their main controller? If it was just a gimmick, you'd think they'd just bring it out later as an option add-on, like the powerglove, not make it integral to the system. So maybe it actually works.

Remember, they were the first to come up with the Rumble Pack, now everyone uses it. Some gimmicks turn out to be the real deal. (the rest of course, are just gimmicks)

            • I disable rumbling, it throws off the controls...

              • Nintendo has already used tilt sensors in some gameboy games (Kirby's Tilt & Tumble, Warioware Twisted), so this controller seems like the natural next step for them.

If it works I can see a lot of unique games coming out for the new system and this might sell a lot (especially if the console is way cheaper than the X360 or PS3) - get one of the other consoles for your standard games and a Nintendo for the unique exclusive games.

Real men, with big, strong hands don't disable rumbling

It vibrates the controller which throws off the analog stick's position slightly.

And when you're racing in a Ferrari Enzo at 300km/h, a tiny nudge and you're dead.

                      Indeed. Lets wait and see.

That's why you have to stay on the track Personally, I never had a problem with the rumbling. It never got in the way.

                        • Weird, weird, weird.

I wonder if you can hold the new controller like an old-style joypad, one hand on the d-pad, the other on the two bottom buttons?

That's what I was thinking when I first looked at it. I dunno.

                            • I would refrain from betting on Nintendo.

When is the Revolution supposed to come out, BTW?
