Spiffor: Sorry, I meant C0ckney's story not the one this thread is about.

I suspect that story is very much like what LazGimp said about this story, it requires some reading between the lines and press sensationalism. Have you got a link to the story?

Then they applied for support from the National Lottery and went successfully through all the rounds bar one, falling at the final hurdle. They were 'disqualified' because - wait for it - there was not sufficient "ethnic community mix" in the village.

            You're all missing the point.

It's not PC run amok, it's a NIMBY law. Rich White flight conclaves allow such a silly distinction to exist as it gives them protection from having to support and live around the sort of people that are unable to afford parks and football fields on their own.

Not as such- it's just easier to fall back on the stated objectives of lottery grants. Which are objectives, not barriers, despite what the Torygraph would suggest.

No- that's called tax breaks for the superwealthy. A policy very popular with Conservatives.

" But far from redistributing land, successive British governments have reinforced this inequality by subsidising the richest landowners in the country. For example, a recent New Statesman investigation found that the multi-billionaire Duke of Westminster - who has done nothing to earn his wealth - is entitled to £9.2m in subsidies each year from you, the taxpayer. Kevin Cahill, the author of an award-winning book on land ownership in Britain, explains: "Money is being taken out of your pocket to enhance the assets of the rich, who, in their role as landowners, pay no tax. This is a massive scandal." "

Camelot is a private company, that have been given the license to run the state lottery. Generally meaning the taxpayer receives part of the funds, rather than providing them. Yet were it someone like the Scouts, who are actively funded by taxpayers denying support to gays, or another group which recieves benefits from the state saying it doesn't want people who are black or anti-war, the right-wingers wouldn't heistate to say they can do what they like.

I'll be consistent and say they can do what they like in both cases.

A recruiting agency recently told my gf that she should remove the photo from her cv, as she may be discriminated against for being white!

We probably deserve some counter-discrimination for all the slavery etc
