One of my aunts is devoutly religious and whenever she exclaims amazement or whatever, she uses the safe expression, "Oh my land!"

          other annoying words for me:

revisionism (when people refer to the study of history)

          straight-acting

My mother refers to lunch with the word "dinner." It's particularly annoying when we are talking about a planned family-get-together and I have to make sure she is really talking about lunch, or talking about dinner, as in the evening.

LUNCH IS FOR NOON AND DINNER IS FOR EVENING!!

I might think of a couple of others later.

And actually Japher, the sky is a tint of red and orange in the evening, so it's not always blue.

Actually, Amerindian is a more appropriate word IMO.

                    "like"

I don't mean, like saying, like:"I like you" or anything like, just like, I get annoyed when using "like".
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

If someone uses a poor choice for a word, I can disregard it as a slip of the tongue or minor flaw.

I find it more annoying when someone's lack of vocabulary or thought causes them to constantly use the same word or phrase. Popular abuses for this:
                        "like"
Curse words, typically sh!t and variations of F***
                        "I mean"
                        "you know"

I broke up with a girl who had a problem with calling everything "the bomb" and she was 29. I worked with a VP who abused the phrase, "the fact of the matter is...."

                        edit: see alva's post
