  • Evangelicals quicken their offense against religious freedom

I just got done watching a special report on CNN, about the large number of evangelical members in the Air Force Academy.

Apparently, it seems that their is growing pressure from evangelicals within the academy to stifle religious freedom, and increase pressure among their comrades to convert to their religion.

I think one of the reasons this has become a greater problem is that the presidency of George Bush's and his reelection has increased the chauvinism and arrogance of many evangelicals. This is the first I have heard of this kind of problem in the Air Force Academy.

The Air Force Academy is part of the military education/training program, where we are suppose to prepare American recruits and cadets to become professionals within the US military. How are we doing that by stifling their religious freedom, and discouraging acceptance of religious diversity?

Arseholes...you know, they claim to want to be free to practice their religion without persecution, but I ask you...where is the reciprocation? I used to get pestered (although to a much lesser extent by the sound of it) by God-botherers and was not influenced me once...also happened in school. I manage to dodge these 'anti-intellectual bullets' and come through the other end with integrity without falling for all that hogwash. I just wish they would leave everyone alone and keep their lies and filth to themselves...

That's good that you were strong enough to withstand the pressure.

She said he also objected to dramatizations of interactions between cadets of different religions, saying they were unfair to Christians.

Morton recalled him asking: “I would just like to know why in your presentation Christians never win.”
                Interesting.

Maybe it's time we actually start oppressing them, since they claim we are anyway.

Why should they be prevented from saying stuff or presenting stuff to you?

Yeah, you might think it's all lies and filth, but I assure you that many other people would see otherwise. Just because it is a burden on you, is not justification to bar them from spreading their beliefs to others.

Why not? Especially when this is your headline:

"Air Force Academy chaplain says she was fired for speaking up"

She may think that, whether this is true or not, is an entirely different story.

Given this quote from the article:

"The academy said Whittington was unavailable for comment because he was being interviewed by the Pentagon task force investigating more than 50 complaints of religious intolerance"

I would say that is a fair indication of religious intolerance and hostility in the academy. So, the captain who was fired has a fairly strong claim -- it has yet to be completely proven, however.

The Air Force’s chief chaplain, Maj. Gen. Charles C. Baldwin, said Morton had not been fired. Her duties have changed, however, because Whittington will retire in June, rather than in July as originally planned.

Morton has been scheduled for reassignment to an Air Force base in Japan for some time, he said.

“It’s just a normal way of life when a person comes to the end of their assignment,” Baldwin said. “She is not doing the executive officer work except for the transition time when she hands it off to the new guy who’s coming in.”
or this quote from the paragraph directly above yours, Mr. Fun?
