This is a clear example of communist double-think.

No, it's an example of you obviously not understanding what I'm saying. They whole purpose of law is to limit people's freedoms. Democracy doesn't change that.

The whole purpose of law is to balance people's rights and freedoms. i.e. your "freedom" to steal from me or kill me is a violation of my rights not to be robbed or killed by some random individual who feels a need to exercise such a "freedom"

That's not the "whole" purpose. A democratic govt can pass any law that it wants within the guidelines of its constitution. Any right not guaranteed by the constitution is fair play.

A democratic government can pass any law acceptable to the electorate which provides, over the long term, the balance between rights and freedom.

You could call any lack of freedom slavery. We all wake up in the morning and do what we gotta do. I don't call that slavery.

Even if that were true it would depend on how you define balance, and it would be subject to interpretation.

Bull. Basic freedom included the ability to change jobs and to move. You strip these from people under the guise of law and you have introduced slavery. Diocletian did this to the Roman people after his wage/price controls caused the Roman economy to collapse. In some respects, Diocletian introduced the first communist government on this planet.

                    All hail Diocletian!!!

                    • That's your definition of slavery Ned. Obviously we are talking about a situation where most people disagreed with you, and making you work at a specific job would not be undemocratic.

                      • Kid, most people do not disagree with me that being tied to a job without the ability to change jobs, or the ablity to move, is a form of slavery. I have to wonder at the thinking of people who would even suggest such a thing.

It need not be defined, nor interpreted. Balance is inherent in the electorate's ability to change the laws as individual and societal needs evolve.

You mean you're chained to your desk and your boss refuses to let you quit and go elsewhere?

I don't know if balance can be inherent since it's subjective.
