The EU constitution sucks, from an integration perspective, and that's why it is being rejected

I don't disagree with you. Just wondering how the impending rejection of the EU Constitution is going to affect France's only long-term policy goal.

        Not precisely:

        1. It wasn't and still isn't a superstate, far from it (whereas the Beneluxians would have really managed to make their thing into a highly integrated, yet tiny and internationally irrelevant, superstate).

        2. However, it was the #2 economic bloc, and something that became increasingly integrated and efficient. After decades of efforts, the EU is now able to defend its trade and monetary interests as equals or near-equals to the US. If you compare with the sixities or with even the nineties, that's a huge progress.

So, the "nothing more" in the quote isn't really appropriate. When you have created an economic giant that can defend its interests on its own, the "nothing more" is a bit ironic

The European construction will continue, because none of our political elites (and not many people in the general population) will want to get rid of it. However, the direction of the European construction will probably change.

I'm a Non voter cause I expect the change to be for the better.

Yes. Taiwan is a part of China. Plus it will get your stinking asses out of that part of the world quicker.
No, China is a part of Taiwan. As soon as the dictators in Beijing get kicked out, the better.

No, they don't care either. However, the Taiwanese government has been forking over mountains of dough to the US military complex, which is A Good Thing.

This is so funny coming from an US person. The irony is just so unbearable.

That's what's going to happen anyway. Don't worry yourself about it.

And what happened in Vietnam? Korea? Russia? Nothing? Lets face it, the main reason why China hasn't been imperialist is because its been fighting off foreign imperialism since the seventeen hundreds. After WWII, when China was, for basically the first time in three hundred years, unified under one strong rule, China has been posturing, getting into border conflicts, and trying to otherwise intimidate its neighbors until the present.

That, coupled with the fact that China combines the worst aspects of capitalist and communist government, I think that China should be very worrying to a lot of people. Especially the consistently leftwing types like Agathon.

It's funny how Americans get mad at capitalists for doing what capitalists do.

                                Depends.

Would you seriously fight against China over Taiwan, if China had modern weaponry?

If yes, then indeed, the military alliance has become completely meaningless.
If no, thenthe current French behaviour doesn't change a thing.
