Are you stuck with this? It doesn't make sense if you do, and these are similar situations.

The difference, as I see it, is that your new boss has given you the money order , you've paid it into your account and then taken out the 10,000 before the money order has cleared into your account.

The key part is that he endorsed the money order. The are multiple ways of liability connected with negotiantion of commercial instruments (checks, money orders, drafts, etc) but one of the clearest is edoresment which creates both contractual and warranty liabilities (among other things, you are guaranteeing to the party you endorse/assign it to, the genuiness of the instrument, the availability of funds, and the validity of ALL prior signatures/endorsments) negligence/skill is not needed for an endorsers liability.
