  • And that's the end of the show.

Incredibly lame. The Nintendo fanboys on other forums are stunned.

No real revolution info, no controller info, no game demos...

      • They're getting quite good at it, with years of practice.

        They just don't get it.

        • Some articles are saying the PS3 blew away the competition(read: Xbox360) as far as graphics go; anyone able to comment on this?

          • AFAIK, those PS3 graphics were pre-rendered, so it's not a fair comparison.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. PS3 devkits have only been available to developers for 2 months. The "footage" shown at the Sony press briefing has since been found out to be pre-rendered, not real-time in-game footage like they tried to hint at.

The only game that was shown rendered in real-time was the Unreal Engine 3 (which is cross-platform, also on Xbox 360).

In terms of real graphical power, the lack of embedded DRAM will hurt Sony a lot. The graphics chip is also a stock upcoming PC part, while the Xbox 360 one is basically a radically new part unlike anything we'll see on the PC for a couple years.

Xbox 360's graphic chip should be considerably more powerful, especially given it has far less bandwidth use. It has 256GB/s access to the DRAM to draw the scene, then when it's done, it pushes the scene out to main RAM...

The PS3 has to render the entire scene in the 22.4GB/s main RAM, which is considerably slower.

              • Interesting... aside from the funky controllers, I have to say that PS3 looks the best out of the big three. I was almost certain to get an XBox 360 before E3. Now... not sure. I'll have to wait until both come out.

                • I think price may end up being important here.

                  • So for all platforms current controllers will be worthless?

What are these USB ports all about? I know you can plug in keyboard, etc, but are wired controllers going to be USB now?

Yep... I agree with this. If the PS3 is comparable price wise with XBox 360, this may be a very difficult decision.

That would be more impressive if free emulators/ROMs weren't so common place.
                          *all* NES games?

That actually would be impressive, as there are several NES games for which I have never found the ROMs

That means I guess that the PS3 won't be out 'till Q4 2006.

I admit I don't understand most of the tech mumbo jumbo. They told us the Cell would have 9 cores, whereas the 360 would only have 3 of them. But now they're saying that the Cell only has one CPU, with 7 x SPE @3.2GHz. I don't have the foggiest idea what a SPE is, so...

                              Just Nintendo games AFAIK.

                              • Hasn't M$ had dev boxes in developers' hands for a couple years already?
