A great man he was indeed, both as a human and as a Christian. How he managed to keep up and do what he did while being so sick as he was for the last years, is truly fantastic! May you rest in peace John Paul II, at last you're home with God.
Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139.14a

The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power.

              Amen.
A tear for the many good things this Pope did, and for some he didn't.

Beyond doubt, the greatest Pope in many centuries. Would that more of his predecessors had such vision and taste for outreach.

I pray that his successor rises to the challenge of filling his shoes.

As I said in the other thread, my heart goes out to all of the faithful Roman Catholics posting here on 'poly, and around the world. I hope they find his equal to be his successor.

I went to see him when he visited Zagreb. Only saw him passing in the papamobile.

He is very respected here in Croatia, he visited our small country three or four times in ten or so years, which is remarkable. Vatican also recognized Croatia as an independant state before EU countries did.

I'll always remember him talking about peace and forgiveness. I didn't think much about it then, only later I learned that not all religious leaders are such. Many are in fact preaching the opposite and enticing violence.

For all that John, thank you. Today I'll go to the mass after quite some time, to honor your passing.

My heart goes out to this pope as well. I recall discussing when I worked in an office with other catholics about his papacy, and all I could say is that this man was a credit both to the church and his faith in all that he did. Even though I wasn't Catholic, I would admire him beyond the leadership of my own church.

I didn't get to visit him when he went to Toronto for world youth day, but I am fortunate to have been a parishioner for at least a sliver of his papacy.
