What does everyone think of Layton? Do you think Mr. Martin will change his budget and put him in the cabinet just to salvage his government?

Or is Layton taking Martin for a ride, and is planning to take the government down anyways, like he said during the beginning of the Gomery affair?

I seem to remember him applauding his own members for lambasting the corruption of the Liberals. Funny, how quickly he is willing to sell his own principles.

From what I can gather, most Canadians aren't interested in having an election and would rather wait to punish the Liberals. Most of this stuff was over 10 years ago, and there's no reason why it can't wait.

The leaders are yapping on TV, but no-one is listening.

If the voting goes below 50% it will be very bad.

hmm we already have rules against marrying blood relatives coming out of various incest prohibitions. I am not proposing tampering with those.

But if you want to marry a random 80 year old lady for the reasons cited, no one would stop you ( assuming everyone was competent).

Your example makes the point. We let people marry for all sorts of reasons. The state does not question them at all on their motives.

I see no reason, given your earlier statement, why adult relatives ought not to be permitted to marry.

hmm-- I don't know that Layton is selling out his principles so much as he is trying to be opportunistic and attain some of the left's agenda.

His fear is that if an election is held, the seat distribution may work out in ways in which he has less power or is even irrelevant ( if a party manages a majority) and the greatest likelihood is gains for the right. The polling situation is such that the NDP could even LOSE seats.

His problem is that if the anti-Liberal backlash grows, he could be tainted by any association with them. If the backlash moderates, some leftists might vote tactically to try to prevent the conservatives gaining power
