The alternative to the blanket ban that I would probably think was ok is to allow sport shooters to keep guns in high security locked safes in shooting ranges. I don't see a problem with that.

Gun crime is a big problem here at the moment though.

MikeH - Isn't there the possibility that if you give the Olympic shooter their guns back it sets a precident?

Other people who want to "sensibly" use guns will come out of the woodwork claiming that is olympic shooters can have guns, why cant they.

What other use is there for a normal citizen to have a handgun other than competition shooting? Or shooting at a range? None. If they want one do all the background checks you need, make them take compulsory range safety training, get a license, make them keep it locked in the gun club, never at home.

I'm not saying I necessarily want that but, I wouldn't be against it and I don't think it'd increase problems. And it's not a vote winner (for me). I thought the blanket ban was a kneejerk at the time and I still do.

Hunters/farmers etc are still allowed shotguns/rifles as it is. There is no other 'sensible' use.

Gun owners can kiss my arse. Gun ownership is not a civil liberty anymore than missile launcher or tank ownership is a civil liberty.

Draconian anti-terror laws take away civil liberties. Banning guns just takes away guns.

Gypsie tried to stab me in the ass when I was 17 or 18. I'm not kidding .. he hugged me and sneaked the knife to his hand, and I noticed it so I was able to pull of fast and I ran away. I laugh at it now but my heart was pumping 10 minutes after it all was over and it was ****ing scary. We weren't hugging so much as he grabbed me to that position to do that. Not really important message for this thread, but just came to my mind when I read this one...
