Um, they've been visiting her every day. How else do you think her mom was able to report on her latest physical appearance?

Still, I think the facts will vindicate us when all is said and done.
You haven't gotten any facts right so far on this matter, so I'm perplexed as to why you would be so confident in this.

Even if he did, would any insurance company be obligated to pay it based on the fact that she died because he ordered her feeding tube removed?

          • I've been watching in wonder - it's going to be my first 500 post thread.

I just wanted to comment on what Captain Dizle said. I have lived in the Bible Belt for 22 years now, and in a Red State for the last ten. His analysis on how this will be used is exactly correct in the American South/Bible Belt. I cannot say about the midwestern/mountain red states.

I believe I have noted this in the past, only 7-21% (I am doing the upper number from memory) of registered voters turn out for off-year primaries. In those years, when the religious right has an issue to galvanize the primaries, they can in the Bible Belt utterly dominate the Republican primaries.

Since I am a registered Republican and vote in those primaries, I have watched the number of moderate candidates steadily shrink. One factor I look for is "Family values" - if you run on them I vote against you. That is between my and my wife and daughter, and my local minister. I do NOT want some G*D D**N politican butting in. This last time, for the first time, all three of our candidates for the Federal House of Representatives - it was an open seat - ran on that issue.

I realize that you more northern conservatives live in a different, well reasoned world. Down south it is very different. I do not believe in Dizle's Bush solely as a helpless pawn scenario. He is very aware of the hippocracy of what he has done, and the bill he signed into law in Texas versus what he has done here. Karl Rove, who is probably one of the most brilliant modern political strategists, has probably given advice on this, and in coordination with various members of the Religious Right is coordinating this. Using her for political advantage is an abomination.

But not to prevent visitations, which are allowed to family members. Of course they are going to prevent people from trying to bring her sustenance.

              • Talk about governmental abuse. I just found this:

"Jeb Bush and the state's social services agency filed a petition in state court to take custody of Schiavo and, presumably, reconnect her feeding tube. It cites new allegations of neglect and challenges Schiavo's diagnosis as being in a persistent vegetative state. The request is based on the opinion of a neurologist working for the state who observed Schiavo at her bedside but did not conduct an examination of her."

If you guys can't see that this case is the opening salvo of an all out war on the Roe v. Wade decision I'd have to advise you never to consider politics for a living. It is as plain as day.

Well, case closed then! Of course, nevermind the fact that numerous independent court-appointed doctors who have actually examined her have all concluded she is, indeed, in a PVS.

This gets more and more disgraceful for the GOP meddlers by the minute.

                          • Mike Tammaro, Schiavo's uncle, visited her in Woodside Hospice on Tuesday afternoon; afterward, he said her condition had deteriorated.

                              • I am just absolutely floored that Jeb Bush would take such an action. If I were a part of the Florida legislature I would be scrambling to find the impeachment statues.

Somebody ought to grill ole Jeb about tort reform. Frivolous lawsuits. Incredible. I am telling you...somewhere Hilary is doing flips thinking about how to use this in the next election.

I have never voted for a liberal or a Democratic presidential candidate. But tonight might be a turning point in my political outlook. This transparent and ill-conceived abuse of governmental power intended solely to accrue credit to the right wing ideology and obtain political advantage is an action that suddenly seems to give credence to past comparisons of George Bush and Hitler. If the Bushes do not respect our people nor our laws, then God help us, they must be opposed.
